The idea of remaking the 1994 cult classic The Crow starring Brandon Lee was propelling and Lionsgate has been in the temptation for more than one and a half decades. However, the project was not ready to move on to the big screen up until now. With Bill Skarsgard, the studio has finally dropped the first trailer of the movie. As for the narrative, the official synopsis reads:

“Soulmates Eric Draven (Bill Skarsgard) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right,” via, ComicBookMovie.Com.

Director Rupert Sanders who has Snow White and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell to his credit helmed the forthcoming movie. British singer and dancer FKA twigs joins Skarsgard as his lover, Shelly Webster, is murdered together by criminals in his apartment. Skarsgard’s Eric Draven becomes The Crow as he resurrects from his murder to save the soul of Webster.

The visuals as presented in the trailer promise the essence of gore and goth in the classic story. The vengeance is upon crime.

Bill Skarsgard Is A Big Fan Of  The Crow

It is not surprising that Skarsgard has been a devout fan of the cult classic and it has been a dream role of the actor. “I was a huge fan of the original film growing up as a kid and was so honored to take on the role of Eric Draven,” Skarsgard previously said (via Yahoo Entertainment).

“But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it. He wanted to completely reimagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. It’s a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to – he is unlike any I’ve ever taken on before.”

Of course, Sanders was not going to inherently follow the original movie, he kept the modern audience in mind tweaking bits and pieces of it while keeping the essence of the original narrative.

“Our interpretation of James’ work also reflects this young generation, whose tastes and references have changed so dramatically from the original film. Hopefully it speaks to them in their language, with their style and music and hopefully will get them to discover Alex Proyas’ film and James O’Barr’s graphic novel, bringing a new audience to the source material,” Sanders said.

The Crow is based on James O’Barr’s supernatural superhero comic book series of the same name. Scribed by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider, The Crow is scheduled for June 7, 2024 release.
