We have finally got to see Michael Keaton reprising his role of titular green-haired ghost in Beetlejuice 2 which is officially titled as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Directed by Tim Burton, the movie also stars Winona Ryder, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, and Willem Dafoe. It’s been 36 years since we saw Keaton in Beetlejuice in 1988 and fans are quite happy to see him back. Yes, we all agree that we were waiting for this to happen and become nostalgic by seeing Michael Keaton in a sequel to the original Beetlejuice. But its was not a quick yes move from Keaton.

Speaking about the cameo with Josh Horowitz for a Happy Sad Confused podcast interview, Michael Keaton reflected on how director Tim Burton and he were initially hesitant to do this sequel .Keaton said,

It was a long time, years and years of Tim and I discussing, dropping it, going off to other things, saying ‘should we?’ Then it was a no, then it was a yes, then it was a no”. Keaton said he and Tim Burton were “cautious about even talking about it”.

While talking about Burton’s process, Keaton said,

There are certain things he can’t explain, and it’s really hard for him to explain, so, then when you see it and you show up, you go ‘oh, I see it, I get it‘”.

In an interview with PEOPLE, while speaking about the initial stages of making the film, Keaton said:

We thought, ‘You got to get this right. Otherwise, just don’t do it. Let’s just go on with our lives and do other things.’ So I was hesitant and cautious, and [Burton] was probably equally as hesitant and cautious over all these years,” he said. “Once we got there, I said, ’OK, let’s just go for it. Let’s just see if we can do it, if we can pull this off.’” (Via The Hollywood Reporter)

Burton, last November said that he had finished doing the sequel after the delay caused by the SAG-AFTRA strike.
