Late Night with the Devil claims to be a master tape of a fictional late-night talk show called Night Owls with Jack Delroy. The film features a spooky episode from 1977, where Jack Delroy, a comedian, brings on parapsychologist Dr. June Ross-Mitchell to promote her latest book on Satanic cults. Along with Lilly, the only survivor of a mass suicide caused by demonic hysteria, Delroy hopes for a sensationally spooky evening of television to transform his show into a must-watch. The film has received a perfect 100-percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Late Night with the Devil, a horror film, is set to release in theatres on March 22, after previously premiering in SXSW in 2023. The film, which stars David Dastmalchian as 1970s talk show host Jack Delroy, follows a Halloeen night broadcast where Jack interviews a teenage survivor of a Satanic church’s mass suicide. With a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics are thoroughly enjoying the film, which has received positive reviews.

Starburst reviewer Joel Harley, giving the film a perfect score, said,

“Its various plot twists are too good to spoil, but do feature some delightfully Cronenbergian body horror and a series of visual effects quite unlike anything seen in an exorcism/teen possession movie ever before.”

EJ Moreno’s review for Flickering Myth also noted, “They say the devil is in the details, and Late Night with the Devil doesn’t forget a single detail—one of the best indie horrors in years.”

Melissa Hannon of Horror Geek Life also wrote in a review,

“Late Night with the Devil is a devilishly entertaining Halloween film with memorable performances that many will want on their annual watch list. For the perfect Halloween night marathon, combine it with Ghostwatch and WNUF Halloween Special.”

Stephen King has also given glowing reviews to the film, describing it as “brilliant” after receiving a screener’s feedback. Cameron Cairnes, who wrote and directed the film, also addressed King’s reaction at Australia’s Sydney Film Festival screening in 2023. “LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL: I got a screener,” King said on X. “It’s absolutely brilliant. I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Your results may vary, as they say, but I urge you to watch it when you can.”

Late Night with the Devil will be released in theaters on March 22, 2024, followed by a streaming release on Shudder on April 19.

Late Night With the Devil is a film set on Halloween night in 1977. It follows Jack Delroy, the charming late-night television host of Night Owls with Jack Delroy. After personal tragedy and setbacks, he is determined to dominate sweeps week by any means necessary. Since it happens to fall on Halloween, his topic is the paranormal.

His guests include a psychic, a magician-turned-skeptic, a parapsychologist, and a teenage girl who may be the victim of demonic possession. Things turn sinister as Jack and his guests explore the unknown in front of a live audience.

David Dastmalchian stars as Jack Delroy. Since 2021, the actor has appeared in The Suicide Squad, Dune, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Boogeyman, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and Oppenheimer. He will soon star in Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck, an adaptation of a Stephen King short story.

Late Night With the Devil also stars Ian Bliss as the skeptical Carmichael, Fayssal Bazzi as the clairvoyant Christou, Laura Gordon as Dr. June Ross-Mitchell, Ingrid Torelli as teenage Lilly, and Rhys Auteri as Jack’s announcer, Gus.

Cameron and Colin Cairnes, Australian filmmakers known for Scare Campaign (2016) and 100 Bloody Acres (2012), wrote and directed the film. David Dastmalchian not only starred but also produced.
