The chainsaw might roar once again—and this time, it could come with the star power of Glen Powell. Rumors have been swirling that filmmaker JT Mollner might be collaborating with the Top Gun: Maverick star on a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre installment. Though the whispers remain unconfirmed, recent comments made during San Diego Comic-Con suggest there’s more to this speculation than fans initially assumed.
Is Glen Powell Set to Reboot Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Here’s What We Know So Far

During a conversation with The Mary Sue about his new thriller, The Long Walk, JT Mollner was asked directly about his rumored involvement in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. The director, flanked by his producing partner Roy Lee, didn’t confirm much, but he didn’t deny it either.
“It feels very good, regardless of whether any of those rumors are true, it’s really nice because, wow, people would like to see my version of that,” Mollner said. His company, once named No Remake Pictures, has since been rebranded as Electric Lady—a move he admits was made to “keep [his] mind open.” Yet, he made it clear he holds the 1974 classic in the highest regard: “I don’t like the idea of remaking movies that I think are perfect. And I will say that I do think Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a perfect horror film.”
While Mollner kept things vague, he did confirm that he has indeed met with Glen Powell. “Glen [Powell] is a tremendous actor and one of the first real movie stars to come along in a long time,” he said. The two reportedly connected after Powell saw Mollner’s film Strange Darling, which sparked a meeting filled with mutual admiration. Mollner was careful not to confirm any project specifics, even giving his partner Roy Lee a knowing glance when the topic came up.
Roy Lee Confirms Discussions Are Happening

Though Mollner stayed cautious, Roy Lee added a telling layer to the conversation. “Well, there is some validity to it and we’re still in discussions, but nothing that’s concrete just yet,” Lee revealed. Mollner, sticking to his cryptic stance, simply said, “Yeah, I figured I’d just let Roy talk. I’m being really careful.”
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, inspired by the real-life crimes of Ed Gein, remains one of the most iconic horror films ever made. Despite numerous sequels and reboots, including 2022’s Netflix entry, the 1974 version continues to dominate the genre’s legacy. If this new installment does come to life with Powell and Mollner at the helm, it could mark a bold new chapter for Leatherface.
