After a series of debacles on Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House, the action-packed movie landed on Prime Video despite the director Doug Liman’s disappointment over the studio skipping the theatrical release of the film. Still, the premise of the film has created decent buzz among fans as the movie went on to star former UFC champ Conor McGregor opposite Gyllenhaal. The actor who also appeared in the 2015 boxing film Southpaw, recently revealed that he was terrified after the movie booked McGregor.

Road House is inherently an action with violence-infused fight scenes complementing the movie’s motif. So, by all means, casting UFC star Conor McGregor was a good decision as his involvement instilled fear with suspense as fans have wondered what his debut would bring on screen. But casting McGregor fostered fear in the Nightcrawler star.

“I admittedly when I heard that Conor McGregor when we finally cast Connor and he agreed to do the movie I was like super psyched and then I was terrified that I’d have to fake fight him there were a couple of things here and there but all to be expected and nobody sustained any serious injuries thank God,” Gyllenhaal told ExtraTV.

Of course, no serious injuries but the filming process of the movie was not entirely free of it. Road House is the remake of the 1989 action thriller of the name starring Gyllenhaal’s Donnie Darko co-star Patrick Swayze.

Gyllenhaal physical transformation for a movie role was not the first in Road House but certainly the actor went through a rigorous training process. “That takes a particular amount of effort particular amount of diet like that’s the primary key to all of it hard work and focus,” he told ExtraTV. But despite his love for pushing himself to the limit, it took a while to get into shape as he appeared in the movie.

“And focus um and I love like pushing myself but uh it took months and it also took a village it really did it took an incredible trainer uh an incredible person who was literally cooking for me and handing me the calories and we had physical therapists for me and for the cast if there were injuries and things so we had a team of people making sure,” he told the outlet.

He went on to add that they “had a lot of tanning spray that actually that helps you know, buckets of it.” His training is visible in his physique in the film and it was inherently required given its nature that gravitates toward the brawl between Gyllenhaal’s Elwood Dalton and McGregor’s character Knox.

Road House is currently streaming on Prime Video.
