Which role of Jamie Dornan comes to your mind instantly when we talk about his filmography? Certainly his role as Christian Grey along with Dakota Johnson’s Anastasia “Ana” Steele Grey in the Fifty Shades film series. But he has shown his range of acting doing different genres over the years. As he is celebrating his birthday today, let’s talk about some other worth-mentioning roles of Dornan.

The Siege of Jadotville

Before he made his name doing Fifty Shades movies, Jamie Dornan tried something different as Commandant Pat Quinlan in the war film The Siege of Jadotville. Based on Declan Power’s book The Siege of Jadotville: The Irish Army’s Forgotten Battle, the film talks about a true story from 1961. The movie is set during the United Nation’s peacekeeping mission in Kongo. Dornan’s character leads his troops against a larger force.

The movie is at 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. You can stream The Siege of Jadotville on Netflix.

Belfast

Dornan played the role of “Pa” in the Kenneth Branagh-directed film Belfast. Belfast is “a personal and joyful story about the power of memory, set in late 1960s Northern Ireland,” says the film’s official synopsis. Dornan was brilliant in this role and got nominated for a Golden Globe and a Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Best Actor in the film. He didn’t win either of these but won a number of awards for the role, including a Critics Choice Award.

Rent Belfast on Prime Video, and Apple TV. It is standing at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Tourist

In the widely acclaimed thriller series The Tourist (2022–2024), Jamie Dornan plays a riveting lead character. Dornan portrays an enigmatic character who has been deprived of his past and suffers from amnesia. Dornan’s character finds out at the start of the narrative that he has no idea who he is or where he’s from. This unsettling realization quickly turns into a run for his life as he gets tracked down by multiple threatening individuals. He loses his memories and must rely solely on his instincts and unyielding will to live to escape into the harsh and desolate Australian outback.

Robin Hood

Here in the Robin Hood film, Jamie Dornan is not the central character but his role as Will Tillman, a new version of Will Scarlet makes the difference and brings an additional layer to the traditional tale. The film is about the prince of thieves, Robin Hood. But it depicted this whole thing in a new perspective. Taron Egerton plays the iconic role of Robin Hood along with Jamie Foxx as the skilled warrior, Little John, while Ben Mendelsohn embodies the tyrannical Sheriff of Nottingham.

Watch Robin Hood on Apple TV or Prime Video.

The Fall

The list will be incomplete if we don’t include Jamie Dornan’s role as Paul Spector, a psychopath in this thriller series. His performance in this series proved that he has the range and that’s why he won both an Irish Film and Television Award and a BAFTA for Best Actor.

He is an extraordinarily attractive serial killer in Belfast who targets young women. He is a fascinating and repulsive character due to his unusual mix of physical appeal and psychotic tendencies. The suspense in the episode rises as Gillian Anderson’s main investigator character begins to follow Spector. One of the most thrilling chases in TV history begins when she becomes determined to identify the culprit.
