Brittany Renner has formally closed the chapter on her child support dispute with NBA player PJ Washington. Renner shared that the decision was influenced by personal accountability and stability for her son. The decision comes after months of legal back and forth that followed Washington’s major contract extension and Renner’s relocation across states.

Renner’s decision was a significant shift in the legal battle tied to their 4-year-old son. The decision comes as Renner relocates from Los Angeles to Atlanta and steps into a new phase of her personal life. Speaking on her podcast, Facets of Life with Brittany Renner, she explained that the case had become an emotional burden, which influenced her choices as a mother and ultimately led her to walk away from the courtroom.

Explaining the reason why she dropped the case against the Dallas Mavericks star, Brittany said, “I don’t know many ‘gold diggers’ who would willingly walk away from the opportunity to take a bitter BD to the cleaners.

She continued, “But then again, this ain’t that and that ain’t this! Moving to Atlanta was choosing to be happy TODAY.”

During her conversation with Rashad Scroggins, Renner explained the emotional toll she endured from the case. “A big part of wanting to stay in California was the child support stuff. As a mom, I felt like I was failing my son,” she said. She shared that a friend initially encouraged her to pursue legal action.

Renner also addressed her frustration over Washington’s absence from their son’s life, stating that he has not seen their child since May 7, 2025.

She later added, “If I can’t get you to care about something that you co-created, then I might as well hit you where I guess it seemingly would hurt you, the only thing you care about, which is money.”

Renner and Washington began dating in 2019 and welcomed their son, PJ Jr., in 2021. The relationship ended soon after and remained tense. Washington signed a $90 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks in September, after which a court ordered him to pay $5,500 per month in child support.

Renner later reflected on her own growth. “I never needed money to be happy,” she said, explaining that her son “doesn’t care about that.” She also noted, “At that point, if I’m trying to create this lifestyle for him, I’m creating on someone else’s dime. That’s also a false sense of security, reality.”

Before dropping the case, Renner shared photos of her 4-year-old son on Instagram, captioned simply, “Life Lately.”
