There can not be anything calm at WWE, well, that is the business, right? WrestleMania 40 is just a few hours away and I have every reason to believe The Bloodline rules will be the dominant factor at the biggest WrestleMania event, on both nights. Still, WWE is running every feud with immaculate precision and fans are ever engaged with almost every storyline. There are no ordinary matches booked for the event, every fight is the result of engaging in brawls, be it LA Knight’s feud with AJ Styles, Becky Lynch vs Rhea Ripley, or the most recent one Gunther vs Sami Zayn, WWE has done a good job in the creatives with the storylines that build the exciting hype for the biggest annual event. But the center of attention has always been on The Bloodline vs Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. While The Bloodline chapter was just getting boring, The Rock returned and it has changed everything, I mean, the very scenario in WWE.
The Rock’s Return, A Big Leap For WWE
While WWE was getting good with creatives after Triple H took over the department, a new roadblock almost plummeted the name of the company after former WWE employee, Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against the former boss of the company, Vince McMahon. The lawsuit immediately caught the attention of media and fans prompting McMahon to leave the company. Also, the lawsuit has kind of closed the doors for Brock Lesnar as well. Per rumors, the Beast Incarnate was in the mix to make his WrestleMania return but that is out of the book right now. Also, CM Punk’s return was promising but his Royal Rumble injuries have sidelined The Best In The World (by the way, he will appear in WrestleMania 40 as a commentator). When the news of The Rock joining the TKO board (WWE’s parent company), it has shifted all the attention to the People’s Champion.
WWE has witnessed an immediate change following The Rock’s return, while his babyface phase didn’t work, he quickly turned heel, arguably it was quite smooth. Still, I think The Rock isn’t convincing enough, not like his Attitude Era persona, anyway. Regardless, it is best for business and The Rock is pushing everything to its limit to keep the company rising above all odds.
There is no doubt that The Rock is the biggest brand the company could ever have, his new Final Boss persona is perfectly suited to his new storyline, his $500 jacket has complemented his heel phase, and he is bringing back the nostalgia with costumes and everything else. Undeniably, The Rock has changed the face of the company within a few days of his grand return.
The Bloodline And The Cody Rhodes Saga
The Bloodline storyline has been around for quite a while, it has dominated several feuds while Universal Champion Roman Reigns retains his championship with over 1300 days title reign. It’s legendary, but now The Rock has joined The Bloodline and he recently acknowledged Reigns as his Tribal Chief. Fair enough, but really? It is definitely The Rockesque.
Then comes Cody Rhodes’ hero phase— the biggest babyface in the company right now— who is on a mission to finish his story for his father Dusty Rhodes, his mother, and his entire family. Fans love The American Nightmare, almost everyone would want to see Rhodes finish his story raising the golden belt up in the air in the middle of the ring.
The Bloodline is too strong and it has been a powerhouse since its inception. So, Rhodes needed a partner to aid him in his battle against the anarchy. WWE gave him Seth Rollins who is the current World Heavyweight Champion (although I find it quite unconvincing to see Rollins as a babyface for the same reason I find Lesner and Randy Orton as heel more engrossing). The pair has done well, Rollins is putting on a brilliant mic show against The Bloodline. And finally, they have accepted The Bloodline challenge— The Rock and Reigns vs Rhodes and Rollins in a tag match.
WrestleMania 40— The Bloodline Rules
Of course, Rhodes deserves to dethrone Reigns in almost every ground but that is very unlikely to happen at WrestleMania 40. On day one, the tag team match is going to be brutal and both parties will do their best to make it the best WrestleMania tag match of all time. Sure but what are the odds of the babyfaces winning against the heel? A lot is at stake as it was not a simple challenge from The Bloodline, if they win, it will be The Bloodline Rules at the day 2 match for the Universal title where Reigns will defend his championship against the challenger and Royal Rumble winner, Rhodes.
So, on day 1, there is every reason to believe that The Rock and Reigns will be victorious as there will be more brawls on day 2. Also, many speculate that Rollins will lose his championship title to Drew McIntyre, I believe that too, which leaves Rhodes all alone and vulnerable in his title shot match. Sure, surprising immortals’ appearance might aid Rhodes momentarily but the final win is very likely to be retained under the umbrella of The Bloodline.
Reason? Well, there are many. To begin with, one must question what’s after Rhodes’ win. But Reigns retaining the title opens the doors for the highly anticipated The Rock vs Reigns. The Tribal Chief defeated everyone on his path and then The Final Boss awaiting to break that streak sounds far more interesting. Of course, fans are still eager to have what Punk and Orton have to offer. But The Bloodline has been carrying the company’s legacy for a while now and dethroning Reigns doesn’t seem the best idea on the card right now. So, my final prediction, it will be Reigns with the win, again.
