Stakes of Deadpool & Wolverine are high as Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer movie has made a global tsunami of hype making the movie the most anticipated MCU project of the year. Marvel Studios has also been careful about the project keeping the movie as the only theatrical release for 2024. But what future do these characters hold? Reynolds and Jackman have answered their say about their potential appearance in the upcoming Avengers movies.
Ryan Reynolds And Hugh Jackman Commented On Their Potential Appearance In Future Avengers Movie
Fans have every reason to believe that Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds will appear in at least one future Avengers movie after the MCU canonization of the titular characters. During the press junket of Deadpool & Wolverine, the duo of the title stars and director Shawn Levy appeared for a chat with Variety and they faced the inevitable question that every Marvel fan has in their mind: will Deadpool and Wolverine appear in any future Avengers movie?
Up until 2019, both Deadpool and Wolverine were part of the Fox-Marvel verse. After joining the MCU, Reynolds is the likely candidate to appear in the huge cinematic franchise. Still, he would refrain from confirming anything too soon. “I don’t know. Yeah, we’ll see. Yeah,” he told Variety.
Levy joined the conversation adding, “Now is where you go to the descriptive part of the article and say, ‘They were shuffling in their seats.’” Jackman was rather awestruck by the question albeit the inherent inevitability, “Clearly, this is our first major interview of this press tour. I’m not sure how to answer,” the Wolverine actor said.
Levy, however, assured that they would be able to answer the question with any conformity in future interviews as it is too early to confirm anything about Avengers 5 or more installments in the successful franchise.
How Significant Multiverse Is In Deadpool & Wolverine?
Deadpool & Wolverine’s first look, teasers, and trailers so far have revealed that the movie will not exclusively follow the same plot or continuation of previous Deadpool movies under the banner of Fox. We see the multiversal mayhem but according to Shawn Levy, multiverse is just a catalyst to build the grand narrative of the movie. “Deadpool is never going to be a space-battle, save-the-universe franchise,” the director hinted at the potential future of Reynolds’ character in the MCU.
“It’s a beautifully grounded character,” Levy told the outlet adding, “This movie is definitely big in spectacle, but the stakes for Logan, for Wade, are what we anchor into. The multiverse is just a backdrop.”
Right now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is under the Multiverse Saga with a few slates left to end the multiversal streak before starting another saga potentially in phase 6. The Multiverse Saga that began with the WandaVision series at Disney+ following Avengers: Endgame (the concluding movie of Infinity Saga), is expected to end with Avengers: Secret Wars. However, the thematic essence built in the current phase may continue in the backdrop allowing the Superhero Brand to have endless possibilities with their narratives.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit the theaters on July 26, 2024.
