Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was eyed to direct the upcoming Avengers 5 following the Ryan Reynolds and Huge Jackman starrer movie. However, Levy was committed to another passion project under the banner of Disney— the same company that owns Marvel Studios.
A rumored report has surfaced online that the director made his exit from the Avengers 5 directors list for his Star Wars movie. Levy who has been attached to the movie has been on a swift track toward development as The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Lucasfilm has hired screenwriter Jonathan Tropper who has been a longtime collaborator of the director which includes Netflix hit and Reynolds starrer The Adam Project.
Levy has been a huge fan of the Star Wars franchise, “If there was any doubt about my fanhood of Star Wars and all things a galaxy far, far away, I’ve eliminated that doubt,” Levy told THR.

Avengers 5 has to be big for Marvel Studios and the superhero brand will leave no stone unturned to make it another blockbuster from the studio. Also, like most MCU movies, Avengers 5 is one of the most anticipated movies that has already been the talk of the town among folks devout to the cinematic universe.
Several reports have previously stated that the studio has relentlessly eyed several directors including Shawn Levy. Now, the Russo Brothers— Joe and Anthony Russo are reportedly set to helm the two upcoming Avengers movies, as reported by THR.
The Russo Brothers served as the lucky charm for the Marvel Studios as they have built their reputation as box office magnets. Their combined Marvel films grossed $6.681 billion with just four movies including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Also, it is worth noting that Endgame alone earned $2.79 billion at the box office standing at the second spot, just behind the $2.92 billion movie Avatar in the highest-grossing movies of all time list.
Most details of the first Avengers movie which was originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before the studio dismissed Jonathan Majors, are under wraps but reports suggest that Marvel Studios will have the title changed as the movie was originally focused on Major’s character Kang.
Avengers 5 is slated for May 1, 2026 release.
