Iron Man’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame to restore the universe was no less than Loki’s glorious purpose in season 2 of Tom Hiddleston’s show. However, it has marked the end of Robert Downey Jr’s legendary tenure at MCU as he has been considered one of the pioneers of the superhero brand who lifted the Marvel Studios to its current state. But that would be up for debate, what concerning for now is that despite Downey Jr’s willingness to get back to MCU, Avengers: Endgame directors are not so sure about his return.

Robert Downey Jr has expressed the desire to reprise his Iron Man role in MCU again despite enjoying the prime of his career outside the shadow of the studio. The actor went on to earn an Oscar for his spectacular performance as Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. But Iron Man has been an integral part of his career and the actor said that he would play the charming iconic character again if given the chance. However, Avengers: Endgame directors; Anthony Russo, and Joe Russo are skeptical about it. “I don’t know how they would do it. I don’t know what the road to that would be [laughs],” Anthony Russo told GamesRadar.

Adding on to his comment, his brother Joe went on to explain, “I mean we closed that book so it would be up to them to figure out how to reopen it.”

“His Oscar win was huge,” Joe continued. “It’s amazing to live vicariously through Robert, you know, that experience for him is so profound, because of the journey he’s had. I mean, it’s one of the great stories of redemption. And he’s such a lovely person, such a hard-working person. He’s a generational actor, so that level of recognition for him, I think, was validation of his redemption arc,” he added.

As far we know, currently, Marvel Studios has no plans for bringing Iron Man back but it is no secret that Marvel is full of surprises, if Hugh Jackman can come back after Logan’s death, why not Iron Man? If Marvel is cooking something with RDJ, Avengers: Secret Wars would be a great restart for the character.

Iron Man Is In Robert Downey Jr’s DNA— He Will “Happily” Play Iron Man Again

It is hard to imagine someone else playing Iron Man other than Downey Jr, the actor has lived and breathed the character. The Oscar winner acknowledged his synonymity with Tony Stark and told Esquire that the titular MCU character is in his DNA and will “happily” reprise his role.

“It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” he told the outlet. “That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

Even if he returns, it would be quite weird but Marvel Studios may just pull it off with a spectacular story rebooting the hit franchise. But, his Endgame scene is sacred, even Marvel Boss Kevin Feige recognized it. “We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again,” Feige previously said (via Vanity Fair). “We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way,” he added.
