Nicolas Cage Talked About Reprising His Spider-Man Noir Role in a Live-Action Spider-Man Show
In a recent interview with Collider, Nicolas Cage has shared that he may reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in a Spider-Man Noir show, a live-action Marvel series set against the backdrop of 1930s New York City. Also, a few days back, The Ankler revealed that aCage is “in serious talks” to lead the role.
In his discussion with Collider what he said is definitely good news for the fans who loved Cage’s interpretation of the character. When asked about his thoughts on reprising the role, the actor said that he had been talking.
“Well, I can say that we have been talking. It’s no secret that I love the character. I think the character provides another mash up of sorts. I can combine my favorite golden age performances, i.e. Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that is, I guess, widely considered [to be] Stan Lee’s masterpiece. I see it as a kind of foray into a pop art mash up of, sort of, a [Jungian] Lichtenstein, mash up by way of Bogart and Cagney, but nothing’s definitive yet. It’s just conversation.”
As of now, no official confirmation has arrived but if it sees the greenlight, then it would be the first time that Cage is appearing in a TV show as a leading role. Earlier, he only appeared as the host of Netflix’s History of Swear Words documentary.
It was reported that Steven Lightfoot, the showrunner for Marvel’s The Punisher would act as executive producer and co-showrunner for Prime Video’s Spider-Man Noir TV series.
Superhero Movies Are Not Something That Nicolas Cage Loves Consuming
Nicolas Cage, the Oscar winner actor is not someone who can keep up with Superhero movies, because he thinks they are simply not for his demographic. The actor told Yahoo! Entertainment that he does not keep up with superhero movies. “I’m not really that up on [the new movies] … It’s not really what I’m consuming so to speak,” Cage said. “It’s fine is what I guess I’m trying to say.”
“I don’t have anything against superhero movies, but it’s not really what I’m consuming.”
He continued:
“I mean, did I have my tray of lemon cookies and my bottle of NyQuil and lose my mind reading Stan Lee’s Marvel Comics at 12? Of course I did,” Cage said. “But I’m not doing that anymore.”
“First and foremost … there’s no version of Nic Cage in reality that doesn’t want to spend time with his children,” Cage said in an interview with PEOPLE.
“There’s no version of Nic Cage that didn’t put family first over career. I turned down Lord of the Rings and I turned down Matrix because I didn’t want to go to New Zealand for three years or Australia for three years because I needed to be home with my son Weston, that’s a fact.”
“I don’t need to be in the MCU, I’m Nic Cage,” he said according to Variety.
His film Ghost Rider 2 grossed $132.6 million, against its $57–75 million production budget.
