To be honest, everything’s possible in the MCU, especially in the Multiverse Saga. Recently, Marvel Studios took the world by storm as they introduced Robert Downey Jr as the next big baddie after Jonathan Majors’ Kang narrative met a premature end. RDJ will appear as Doctor Doom in two of the upcoming Avengers movies— Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Now, a new rumor swirling on the internet regarding Tom Cruse joining the superhero brand as an Iron Man variant.
Tom Cruise Is Rumored To Be In Consideration For Iron Man
Before Robert Downey Jr donned the Iron Man suit in the MCU, Marvel Studios considered Tom Cruise to be the titular superhero. Cruise felt the role was not good enough for him but it saved RDJ’s career and eventually, he helped build the foundation of MCU.
RDJ’s tenure as Iron Man ended with the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame as Tony Stark sacrificed himself to save the universe. The moment left everyone by surprise and perhaps every Marvel fan mourned the death of the beloved character. While RDJ was always keen on returning to his character (which was possible in the multiverse narrative), Marvel Studios dropped another huge surprise at SDCC 2024 introducing the upcoming Avengers movie title— Avengers: Doomsday which was previously titled Avengers: Kang Dynasty.
But there’s more, the studio also revealed the next big bad confirming Doctor Doom’s MCU debut with RDJ returning to the MCU to play the character.
Now, the spot for Iron Man is vacant and a new rumor indicates that the studio is eying Cruise to play a variant of the character.
Fans Are Begging Marvel Not To Bring Tom Cruise In The MCU
It would definitely be huge if Marvel Studios could lock a deal with Cruise to appear as Iron Man this time albeit potentially costing them a huge fortune. The studio has already spent a lot with the Russo Brothers’ return and even more on RDJ. The addition of Cruise to the cast would mean another big paycheck. But for fans, they don’t want any other Iron Man variant as overdoing it has been quite predictable and not so engaging.
Please don't

I gotta be honest.. I’m 10000% over the variant phase of the MCU…

I don't want to see Tom Cruise in a Marvel film. I'm sure I'm in the minority.

I am starting to really dislike the road we're on here. Willing to let it play out, but this seems like flashbangs instead of a real plan.

This is in line with most recent cameos and I expect this to be temporary. I think we'll have a clearer more coherent single universe after secret wars if some sort of soft reboot happens

Enough with the variants already! This is so confusing and boring story telling.

Don’t do it Tom! You’re already a legend! Just keep doing stunts and practicing your weird witchcraft!

Nevermind the ‘hilarious’ cameo’s now – and just get back to making great movies which once gave us new actors, most people didn’t know, that really want & can bring characters to life.— COWBELL BILL (@GrahamHendry14) August 2, 2024
they're panicking, basics they need to stop killing the bad guys, get actors who will stay in roles than do one or two then go as the core chrecters you need to keep
passing the mantle only works to lower D or E level heroes not the top ones
never worked in the comics— Paddy (@PaddysWorldFTW) August 2, 2024
If Cruise joins the MCU at all, we might see Superior Iron Man for the first time. Regardless, Cruise’s return has not been confirmed by either party. While the idea is seemingly huge, at this point it is far-fetched but we can’t entirely dismiss the possibility as well.
