Marvel Cinematic Universe is certainly eyeing on making an X-Men reboot in the very near future and fans have their choice of cast for the convenience of the Studio. Giancarlo Esposito who recently appeared in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix show The Gentlemen, has nodded to fans’ call for the star to play Professor X in MCU but the writer and the director of the franchise must meet one condition.
Giancarlo Esposito Will Play Professor X In MCU But He Has One Condition
Giancarlo Esposito who rose to fame after playing Gus Fring in Vince Gilligan-created popular AMC crime drama series Breaking Bad and it’s spin off, Better Call Saul has finally commented on the idea of playing Prof. Charles Francis Xavier in MCU but without the wheelchair. Speaking with Empire’s Amon Warmann, the actor candidly revealed contemplating the online fan choice for the character in the superhero brand and he is open to playing the iconic role.
“I’ve given it a cursory glance in my brain, and immediately I go ‘Hmm.’ [It would] be great to play Professor X in some other incarnation that just the wheelchair. Right? Because the physical idea of being in a wheelchair every single day does not appeal to me. I just don’t feel that old and I don’t like to sit that much.”
Esposito’s comment on the wheelchair, however, is not completely off the world as the instances of Professor X without the wheelchair were evident in the comic books. He adds:
“But certainly, we could figure something out maybe. Professor X wasn’t always in the wheelchair but that is part of his character development. So, I think about it a little bit but I don’t give it all of my thought because it would have to come to me.”
While fans loved the idea of Esposito playing the MCU character, alongside his suggestion of legendary Denzel Washington as Magneto, his “without wheelchair” demand has baffled almost the entire MCU fandom.
Fans Slammed Giancarlo Esposito’s Demand
The Equalizer star playing X-Men villain Magneto alongside Esposito would be a dream come true for the actor. “I think it would be great. I think it would be great,” he added. However, fans are still unsatisfied with Esposito’s demand for a change in character.

Than simply choose a different role??? I’m confused? If you can’t do the absolute basics of the character than do something else. pic.twitter.com/LUwuIW7KVx

The actor has been aware of the buzz among fans revolving around his name to play the character. Previously, the actor also addressed his desire to rope into the MCU role. “I’d play that character with force, grace, and a calm. Someone who controls the chaos, but someone who also has the ability to uplift and inspire,” he said in 2022 (via MovieWeb). Now, as fans have declined the command from the actor, it would be interesting what he would have to say next in regard to Professor X.
