Wendell Pierce, known for his role as a detective in HBO’s The Wire, joined the cast of Superman (2025) as Perry White. David Corenswet is starring as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The much-anticipated movie also stars Nicholas Hoult as the classic villain Lex Luthor.
The character of Perry White was first introduced in a Superman radio serial in 1940 and it’s been played on the big screen by Jackie Cooper, Frank Langella, and Laurence Fishburne Wendell Pierce. who is excited to play Perry White made an honest admission that he never grew up reading comics.
Wendell Pierce “Never Grew Up Reading Comics“
To many fans’ surprise, Wendell Pierce, who is going to play one major role in James Gunn’s Superman said that he has not read comics. In a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the Suits actor spoke about the role, and his passion for it. He said that he relies on friends to prepare since he didn’t read comics growing up.
“I’m looking forward to this,” Pierce revealed. “I never grew up reading comics, so I relied on my friends to tell me about it. I’m excited about this, you know.”
The upcoming Superman movie is the first solo project in over ten years after Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
“The great James Gunn is directing that film. That’s what I hear,” Pierce teased. “You may know more about it than I do!“
Per DC Studios, Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and a better tomorrow, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Meanwhile, the logo for the first film in the DCU- Superman was revealed at CinemaCon 2024. Gunn sent a video message from the set for those in attendance. It is bright yellow and red, with an ‘S’ that tapers off at its bottom. He also revealed that the movie’s cast would be at next year’s CinemaCon to “kick off the summer of Superman.”
