The Hall H crowd at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 wasn’t just treated to chaos— they were handed a hard-hitting, dimension-hopping, metal-scored spectacle. James Gunn unveiled the long-awaited trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, and this time, it’s set to a surprisingly fitting backdrop: Ozzy Osbourne’s haunting “Road to Nowhere.” The trailer not only teased multiverse madness and emotional payback but also delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late heavy metal legend, who passed just days before the trailer dropped.
James Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Gives Tribute To Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy

James Gunn has always been a director with a deep love for music. Whether it was Guardians of the Galaxy or the first season of Peacemaker, his soundtracks have felt like emotional compasses for his characters. But Season 2, he says, hits different.
“The soundtrack this season is my favorite soundtrack I’ve ever done,” Gunn told fans at Comic-Con. “It’s a lot more modern bands, a lot more songs from the past 10–15 years or so.” One of those songs was Osbourne’s “Road to Nowhere.”
“Ozzy Osbourne in the trailer — that was really sad the other day [when he died], and it wasn’t until this morning I remembered we had him in the trailer and in this season,” Gunn admitted. Gunn’s signature ability to align character pain with sonic poetry hits harder than ever here.
The legacy of Ozzy, particularly in a project like Peacemaker, is almost poetic. The Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, left a huge void in the music industry following his passing on 22 July 2025 at the age of 76.
John Cena’s Multiversal Meltdown Brings A Brutal New Chapter For Peacemaker

Set one month after the events of Superman, Peacemaker Season 2 picks up with John Cena’s Christopher Smith in crisis. Still reeling from trauma, grief, and rejection (yes, Harcourt still can’t decide how she feels), Chris opens a dimensional portal known as the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. In one universe, he’s a joke. In another, a national hero with a supportive father. Both realities collide, setting the stage for a surreal battle— literally, Cena versus Cena.
Returning cast members include Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, and Steve Agee as John Economos. But the breakout this season may just be Frank Grillo, who steps in as Rick Flag Sr.— a grieving father hellbent on revenge after Peacemaker killed his son, Rick Flag Jr., in The Suicide Squad (2021).
“He is a terrible dancer,” Gunn joked about Grillo during the EW Comic-Con suite interview, referencing the infamous opening credits sequence. “But he was a trooper.” Grillo fired back, “I was really against it because I’m a serious actor… And little by little, I became the best dancer out of everyone.”
Comic-Con’s footage showed even more surprises. Emilia Harcourt does a “Dirty Dancing”-inspired lift. Tim Meadows returns as A.R.G.U.S. boss Langston Fleury. Even Judomaster pops up. And yes, Chris might finally get his shot at the Justice Gang.
As Gunn confirmed, “There are certain things from the old universe that we refer to in Peacemaker Season 2, but until then, they’re not canon,” he told Den of Geek. So while the show still acknowledges The Suicide Squad, it also gives fans a glimpse of what the rebooted DCU looks like, with appearances from Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn).
When And Where To Watch Peacemaker Season 2?

The eight-episode run promises emotional growth, brutal battles, multiverse mayhem, and yes, an even more viral dance number.
Peacemaker Season 2 premieres Thursday, August 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO Max.
