James Gunn’s formation of New DCU is on the first track as several projects under Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe now have production updates. Gunn’s very own Superman starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan has made several headlines recently following the leaked photos of the movie unveiling the first look of several characters. Now, in a recent report, DCU’s one of the most anticipated Lanterns series is finally moving ahead at HBO.
The Lanterns Series Got Final Nod From HBO
As per reports by several outlets including Variety, a new DC series Lantern has been ordered by HBO to move ahead which will be based on DC Comics’ John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Chris Mundy who has Ozark and True Detective: Night Country to his credit, will serve as the showrunner and exec producer of Lanterns.
Based on Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two prominent members of the Green Lantern Corps which is an intergalactic law enforcement agency that fights cosmic crimes will follow the duo on the detective-like mystery-solving quest. The official logline reads: “Two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” Damon Lindelof and Tom King are co-writing the series however, other details are still under wraps including the cast and director/s.
Nathan Fillion has been cast as DCU’s Guy Gardner, an eccentric version of Green Lantern who also has ties with the Green Lantern Corps, is set to appear in James Gunn’s Superman.
James Gunn and Peter Safran Hailed Chris Mundy
Lanterns which is likely to follow the release of James Gunn’s David Corenswet-starrer Superman and the upcoming DC series Creature Commandoes (which will mark the dawn of the new DCU), potentially have a huge role in Gunn and Safran’s DCU. Of course, previously it was reported that upcoming DC slates will not require fans to keep themselves updated according to the timeline but an inherent link will definitely serve as a string to connect the dots, at least for a future Justice League movie.
Now, Gunn and Safran who are serving as the co-CEOs of DC Studios, hailed Mundy who is set to run the Lantern show. “We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris, Damon and Tom at the helm,” Gunn and Safran said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter).
“John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman,” their statement added.
The upcoming DC series which will contain eight episodes has created a wave of buzz among fans. The release info of the show, however, is still under wraps.
