Zendaya who became a worldwide fame plays the role of Rue Bennett, a drug addict fresh from rehab who’s struggling to make sense of her future. The second season aired two years ago and sources told Variety that Sam Levinson, the writer and director of the show, wants a time jump five years into the future. However, Zendaya was not excited with that approach.
Zendaya, who is also an executive producer of the show not being able to veto the script tabled some suggestions before Levinson. As per the revised script, Zendaya reportedly had a new story arc where her character was working as a private detective. HBO rejected this idea. The Spider-Man: Homecoming actress also had another pitch as her character would be a pregnancy surrogate. This too was vetoed by the studio as they thought that these ideas didn’t fit with the tone of the show.
In a previous interview with Elle, Levinson described Season 3 as a “film noir” and hinted that Zendaya‘s character of a recovering addict would “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”

In November 2023, HBO confirmed that the show’s third season was expected to premiere in 2025. But it seems like it will take more time as recently, HBO has officially delayed its production.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities,” the network said in a statement to Deadline.
However, sources say that the studio was not sure about when or how the third season filming will begin. But as Levinson and the cast are contracted for a third season, it will definitely be made.
Euphoria Seasons 1 & 2 are now available for streaming on Max.
