Lucifer star is the new God but trapped inside a cat.
Tom Ellis has the charm in his voice and very appearance to play the devil in the popular series Lucifer, why not God? The actor voiced God or God trapped in a cat’s body called Godcat in the recent Netflix animated series Exploding Kittens. The actor finally decided to weigh in on the very irony of his transformation from playing the Devil to landing voice for God.
Tom Ellis Addressed Voicing God After His Lucifer Role
Tom Ellis has played the title character in Lucifer for a while. The acclaimed urban fantasy series developed by Tom Kapinos ran for six seasons from 2016 to 2021. After his Lucifer tenure, the charming Welsh actor landed his voice for Netflix’s Exploding Kittens voicing God opposite Sasheer Zamata’s Devilcat/Beelzebub.
“The irony wasn’t lost that they wanted me to play God after playing the Devil,” Ellis told Comingsoon.net during the press junket of the show. “It’s a completely different project. Whilst it had those celestial similarities, there were a lot of different elements to it. Honestly, I got the scripts in, and I was like, ‘This is bonkers, but it’s also incredibly funny. I think I know what I’d like to do with this.’ It was a natural progression, in a weird sort of way,” he added.
Of course, there are striking differences but both the shows follow the inherent biblical thematic essence. Also, Lucifer and Exploding Kittens both possess the tonality of the subtle humor throughout but Ellis voicing Godcat definitely gave an edge to the new series as he kept his consistency sharp in his charming voice.
What Exploding Kittens Is About?
The following content may contain minor SPOILER! The basic premise of Exploding Kittens follows God transforming into a cat, Godcat followed by the heavenly trail to prove his worth by helping a human family of eccentric members on Earth.
“Earth sucks, so God (Tom Ellis) gets fired and sent to Earth to reconnect with humanity. The catch? He’s trapped in the body of a chubby house cat. As part of Godcat’s rehabilitation, he moves in with a dysfunctional family and tries to solve their problems, but ends up spending a lot of time chasing laser pointers,” the synopsis reads.
Later his archenemy, the devil also dropped on Earth to prove her worth to run things smoothly in hell as CEO. “To top it off, Godcat’s next-door neighbor, who is also a cat, turns out to be none other than his nemesis, the Antichrist. The result is the ultimate fight between good versus evil…except, Godcat is distracted by a pigeon he saw in the yard and Devilcat (Zamata) is busy napping on someone’s lap.”
The narrative follows several funny God and Devil catfights and much more with wickedly funny punchlines and references complementing the tonality of the series.
