Sydney Sweeney has been in the news for various reasons. Be it for the rumor of cheating with her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell or her recent debut in Saturday Night Live, she grabs the spotlight. But what is worrisome for her is the messages she receives in her DMs. She openly many times spoke on this matter that she has been sexually objectified by online users.

During her speaker session at the South By Southwest festival, the White Lotus actor said that she does not feel safe there.

My DMs are not a safe space,” she said in response to an audience question. “There is no respect in those.”

Definitely, this is a problematic issue for a public figure. Sweeney recently commented on getting such messages on a regular basis and how she has “no control” over it.

On being asked about the online discourse she’s getting for her SNL debut, she told Variety

I see it, and I just can’t allow myself to have a reaction. I don’t know how to explain it – I’m still trying to figure it out myself,”

People feel connected and free to be able to speak about me in whatever way they want, because they believe that I’ve signed my life away. That I’m not on a human level anymore, because I’m an actor. That these characters are for everybody else, but then me as Sydney is not for me anymore,” Sweeney said. “It’s this weird relationship that people have with me that I have no control or say over.

Sweeney has been an outspoken personality about how people still perceives a stigma against actresses who goes n*ked on screen saying that while people think it’s normal for an actor to go shirtless but as soon as a girl does n*de scene, they act completely different.

In a short span of time, Sweeney became the talk of the town. Today, she is one of the most iconic stars in Hollywood. But earlier, she felt she had some insecurity, discomfort about her own body. But doing the Euphoria role helped her regain her confidence.

The entire process has kind of forced me to go outside of my comfort zone because Cassie, especially this season, is such a challenge,” Sweeney shared with Good Morning America.

I definitely have become more free and confident with my body. I have definitely struggled with a lot of body dysmorphia and been self-conscious. And judging myself in a very sick, hard way. But with Cassie, I mean, everything’s out there, in the public, and I can’t really control that. So it’s helped me in a therapeutic, weird way, accept my body in a different way.”

Sweeney continued,

I had bo*bs in middle school. And I got horribly bullied for it because no one else had gone through puberty. And so, I hated my body. And so having a character like Cassie, and embracing it, has been really, really, powerful, for myself.”

While speaking with Glamour UK, Sweeney stated that during her teenage years, she felt uncomfortable in her curvy figure and used to cover up intentionally.

Sweeney explained: “When I was in high school, I used to feel uncomfortable about how big my bo*bs were and I used to say that when I turned 18, I was going to get a boob job to make them smaller.

And my mom told me: ‘Don’t do it. You’ll regret it in college.’ And I’m so glad I didn’t. I like them. They’re my best friends.”
