Sydney Sweeney is one of the most evolved actors in recent times. Sweeny has appeared in several acclaimed projects including Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Her most recent work, Anyone but You stars alongside Glen Powell went on to be a surprise box office smasher. But every actor must go through roadblocks and Sweeney was no exception. The actor’s superhero debut in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe’s Madame Web alongside Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor did not go well as it was hyped. Still, she has no regrets for her appearance in one of the most disastrous films of the year, so far.
Sydney Sweeney Has No Regrets For Doing Madame Web
Sydney Sweeney appeared in Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off, Madame Web as Julia Cornwall. While the movie was in hype as it was expected to bring something fresh and unique to the narrative that had not been explored before, Madame Web was far from justifying it. The S.J. Clarkson-directed movie only managed a diminishing 13% Rotten Tomatoes score while flunking at the box office. Still, Sweeney has a positive approach to look at her film. Speaking with GQ, the actor revealed that she was not squirmed by the disappointing reviews.
“The movie is such a large movie with so many people involved. I was just hired as an actor and happy to bring to life a character that my little cousins are excited about. There’s no outcome I can control on a film like that, especially when I’m not a producer. You sign up for whatever happens and you take the ride.”
Of course, one flunking project can not hinder the long way ahead of her, she was far from mourning the tragedy of it. The actor has already been roped in for Michael Mohan’s psychological horror, Immaculate under the banner of Neon.
Sydney Sweeney Is Open To Return As Her Madame Web Character
The movie’s lead Dakota Johnson made it vividly clear that she would not probably consider reprising her character again as the actor was haunted by the harsh criticism the movie had received. But Sweeney would not let go of an opportunity to appear as the future Spider-Woman as the movie set her to be. “No, I mean, there’s definitely a different formula when you’re making a film like that, that was very different from what I’m used to,” Sweeney said when GQ asked if she felt something off about the movie. “I think that if the story is right and you have the right team, I would love to,” she added revealing that she is willing to reprise her role.
“To me that film was a building block, it’s what allowed me to build a relationship with Sony. Without doing Madame Web I wouldn’t have a relationship with the decision-makers over there. Everything in my career I do not just for that story, but strategic business decisions. Because I did that, I was able to sell Anyone But You. I was able to get Barbarella.”
The actor has definitely the best way of looking at her role, she will not repent or regret but rather embrace the possibilities ahead of her in her rising career in Hollywood.
Madame Web is currently showing in cinemas.
