Beyoncé revealed that each song of her recent album Cowboy Carter was inspired by different Western movies. As revealed by the pop icon, Michael Matthews’ Five Fingers For Marseilles, James Bridges’ Urban Cowboy, Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, Clint Eastwood’s Space Cowboys, The Harder They Fall by The Bullitts, and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon were the films that accompanied her recording process. The Coen Brothers’ comedy, O Brother, Where Art Thou soundtrack was also the source of inspiration for one song. “My process is that I typically have to experiment,” says Beyonce said, (via Variety).
“I enjoy being open to have the freedom to get all aspects of things I love out and so I worked on many songs. I recorded probably 100 songs. Once that is done, I am able to put the puzzle together and realize the consistencies and the common themes, and then create a solid body of work.”
Further, the singer revealed that she used real instrumentation for the project complementing the homage to the country, blues, and Black folk.
Cowboy Carter— A Real Treat
Cowboy Carter, as Beyonce assured will be a treat for fans as the music of the album was meticulously crafted keeping it organic and real with “everyday things like the wind, snaps and even the sound of birds and chickens, the sounds of nature,” she said.
Further, the original Black Cowboys of the American West also inspired the essence of the album. Beyonce believes that her new album was her finest work. “I think people are going to be surprised because I don’t think this music is what everyone expects,” she said, “but it’s the best music I’ve ever made.”
Under the label of Parkwood and Columbia, Cowboy Carter was marked as the second installment to Beyoncé’s trilogy project, Renaissance being the first. The eighth studio album from the singer took five years to complete and now getting a positive response from fans and critics and is expected to be another mass hit from the singer.
