Oz Perkins has made a masterpiece with Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage that has been the talk of the town among horror-loving folks. Certainly, the acclaimed movie has exceeded the bar of expectation, thanks to the groundbreaking performances of the lead and supporting casts.
Nic Cage, in particular, embraced the role and made it one of the most memorable performances from the actor. But how did he do it? Playing the vicious killer was not easy but it was, as the actor previously said, inspired by a fragment of vivid memory with his mother. Now, Perkins revealed that Cage follows a unique style when he acts before the camera. “It starts with the scripts,” Perkins told Discussing Film.
“It starts with the words which he wants to very faithfully present. He doesn’t want to change things, he doesn’t wanna ad-lib, he doesn’t wanna improvise, he doesn’t wanna write his own stuff. He wants to see the character as written and try to find a way to make it work for him or make him work for it. He talks a lot about how the character might behave in this circumstance or this. How they move their body, how they inflict their voice, what the sound of their voice makes other people feel. You kind of built it piece by piece just to get into the look of it.”

The director added, “When you are working with someone like Nic, you’re so focused and so much to give within that focus, you’re really just watching out for something that might be a little bit off.”

Nicolas Cage has been doing some profound titles shifting his focus from the limelight blockbusters to indie movies across genres. The actor has found massive success since appearing in challenging roles in his recent acclaimed movies. Maika Monroe who starred alongside Cage in Oz Perkins’ Longlegs recently appeared for a chat with Discussing Films accompanying her director.
She revealed that Cage is one of the actors she grew up watching. “It’s a person that you grow up watching. He’s an icon and then you’re in a scene with him, you’re sitting across from him and you even recognize him. He’s completely transformed,” the scream queen said of Cage.
“Arguably one of the best performances and it’s just one of those moments for lack of better words to have to pinch yourself.”
Cage has certainly impressed the fans and critics. Longlegs is now standing at a stunning 87% Rotten Tomatoes score after making a spectacular debut on Tomatometer with a 100% score. Currently, the movie is in its box-office haul and Neon would expect further success beyond the grand opening.
