Kathryn Newton’s MCU role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania might not seem easy but the actor revealed that Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly-led movie did not give her a hard time. Newton played Cassandra Lang, daughter of Scott Lang (Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Lilly) in the 2023 Peyton Reed-directed movie. Newton most recently appeared in Abigail— a horror thriller directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin— and compared her experience working in both movies.

Kathryn Newton’s Marvel debut as Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has been one of the huge gigs in her career. Following her MCU appearance, the actor seemed to niche down her appearance to horror movies. She appeared in Zelda Williams’ horror comedy, Lisa Frankenstein and most recently Abigail. But for the actor, Abigail role was much harder than playing her MCU character. “I think the Marvel movie, actually,” Newton told CinePOP revealing that her MCU role was easier.

“This [Abigail] was, physically, actually harder than Ant-Man. Ant-Man was the easiest job of my life. It was really fun… And this one was just as fun, but it was different. We had a real set, we had real props, real people. So whatever inspiration you get is from what’s happening right in front of you and I didn’t have to make it up, there was no green screen. And that was much more freeing than I was prepared for.”

Newton is a rising star and the actor’s rise has been commendable. But the shift of genres in movies can be a real test, especially horror movies can take a toll on its stars.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin’s horror Abigail under the banner of Universal Pictures has created quite a buzz following the release of the trailer of the movie. Newton who plays Sammy in the film revealed her most challenging part in the movie. “I think the hardest part is probably keeping the plot grounded,” she told CinePOP.

“Because horror can sometimes get really crazy, and this movie gets really crazy. For me it’s keeping the emotional truth present and being there present,” she continued.

Like the central relationship, “the emotional relationship between  Abigail and Joey, which is the heart of the film. Because I feel like it’s common in horror movies and other movies where you don’t care about the characters, you’re just there to watch the action and the deaths and all that,” she added.

“But if you don’t care about the characters, then you won’t want to watch the movie again. For me, that’s always the challenge in horror, keeping it grounded and true to its madness.”

The actor also revealed the fun part of the movie “The most fun part is the bloodthirsty,” she said. “I think it’s super fun to be covered in blood. I love the chase sequences, the action scenes are super fun to shoot,” she added.

Abigail also stars Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Alisha Weir, and Giancarlo Esposito.

Abigail is now showing in Theaters.
