Jonathan Nolan, the Fallout director needs no introduction. He was creator of the CBS sci-fi series, Person of Interest, and co-writer of the Dark Knight Saga has one wish and it’s not related to Hollywood. His recent work, Amazon Prime’s Fallout has received some good words from viewers.

Jonathan Nollan Wants to Direct Action Films in India

Filmmaker Jonathan Nolan has expressed a strong interest in Bollywood, India’s mainstream movie industry. In an exclusive interview with Showsha, Nolan expressed his admiration for Indian cinema, particularly its action sequences.

“I want to (direct) action in a Bollywood movie,” Jonathan said. When Fallout actress Ella Purnell teased that he wants to act in Bollywood films, Jonathan joked, “I can dance, I can sing…” He then added, “For me, action in Bollywood movies is the best action in the world, it is my favourite thing so getting a chance sit in a set here, in Mumbai and watch them film practical action (scenes) would be a dream.”

In another interview, Nolan told IndiaToday, “It’s so exciting for us to be here. We think of ourselves as a big deal, but Bollywood is bigger than Hollywood. The way films are made here is a little more in keeping with the way we like to make our films.”

He added, “There’s an emphasis on practical beauty, on stunt work. I’m just kind of in awe of the way Bollywood movies are made. I’m hoping to kind of skip my plane and stick around and see what I can learn.”

Despite his enthusiasm for Bollywood, Nolan admitted that he hasn’t had much time recently to watch Indian films. He mentioned that the last Indian film he watched was the epic RRR, which garnered significant attention in North America. “The last one was RRR which is of course… That really broke through North America as well, it is an extraordinary movie,” he noted.

Jonathan Nolan, who co-wrote the scripts for the acclaimed Dark Knight Trilogy, has indicated that he would “absolutely” consider working on more Batman movies. Even though his brother, Christopher Nolan, who directed the trilogy, is not interested in revisiting the franchise, Jonathan Nolan is keen on the idea.

In the same interview, Jonathan Nolan was asked if he’d ever be interested in returning to the Batman franchise at some point in the future.

“Wouldn’t that be a dream?” he answered.“That period was 10 years of my life [from] when I got the call to work on Batman Begins, and it was epic. Working with Christian [Bale], Heath [Ledger], Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and to honor an American icon. If I had the chance to go back and work on that again? Absolutely.”

Jonathan Nolan added, “We’ve moved onto other things. And, of course, other people have picked up the mantel and moved on with those characters.”

When asked who he would choose to play Batman in a future movie, Jonathan Nolan’s answer was clear: “To me, it will always be Christian [Bale].” Christian Bale portrayed the Dark Knight throughout the trilogy, delivering a memorable and iconic performance.

Jonathan Nolan served as an uncredited writer on the first film, Batman Begins, alongside his brother Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. The brothers then went on to co-write the screenplays for both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

The Dark Knight Trilogy is available to watch on Netflix.
