John Cena is spilling beans on Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Fast and Furious’ feud— one of the most popular celebrity feuds of all time has finally ended and Johnson is all set to reprise his character in the hit franchise. Undoubtedly, the Fast and Furious franchise has been a career booster for Johnson but Diesel has seen the dawn of the saga getting to an astonishing height.
John Cena Explained The Feud Between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson
John Cena followed the trail of his WWE fellow Superstar Dwayne Johnson’s cinematic glory as Johnson went on to be a Hollywood action megastar with several blockbusters to his name including Jumanji: The Next Level which earned a whopping $801.7 million at the box office. Cena who also joined the Fast and Furious franchise appearing in F9: The Fast Saga, recently revealed details of the feud between Johnson and Vin Diesel.
“There’s certainly rumors about that. I can’t deny that,” Cena said appearing on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard after the host reminded Cena of the feud. “You have two very alpha, driven people. You get two, there can only be one,” Cena explained.
Obviously, the franchise is full of alphas which also includes several other megastars, and perhaps it was the sole requirement for the popular movie series to extend this further with the same level of popularity. But the feud between the duo was only increasing with time with Johnson leaving the franchise. It also went on to the extent of virtual tussles on social platforms. The Red Notice actor even said that he would never come back to the franchise, “I would not be returning to the franchise,” he told CNN.
Now, we are all glad that the brawl was over, be it for the sake of the movie or other reasons because arguably, both the stars are valuable to the franchise.
Fast X Director Louis Leterrier Revealed How He Brought Back Dwayne Johnson
It was a shocker to many when Johnson took to X (formerly Twitter) to give the huge news— “HOBBS IS BACK,” he wrote on the platform with elegance burying the hatchet. “Luke Hobbs will be returning to the Fast & Furious franchise,” he added. The wrestler-turned-actor further addressed Diesel wrapping up the feud that started in 2016 after the completion of The Fate of the Furious.
“Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.”
Adding on, Johnson said that his return was solely for the audience, “I’ve built my career on an ‘Audience First’ mentality and that will always serve as my North Star.”
But all credit goes to Fast X Director Louis Leterrier, “We were talking with Dwayne and his team about ideas for different movies,” Leterrier told Yahoo Entertainment.
“I’d never met him before, but we sort of wink at each other from a distance. And when I felt that I had a really strong grip on the wheel of the film, I reached out to him and said: ‘There’s no offer, but I want to show you the movie — what we’ve done with the franchise and where I think you’d fit in.’ I guess he liked it, because he’s back, baby!”
Johnson appeared in Fast X in a post-credit cameo teasing extensive screentime in the upcoming installment of the franchise.
End Of An Era
Johnson had just joined the franchise again but the long-reigning saga is nearing its end. Taking to his Instagram, Diesel confirmed that Fast XI would be the final film of the movie series. “Just finished our end of the week Fast meeting with the writers and the whole team,” Diesel previously shared in a caption to his Instagram photo from the franchise. “To say the excitement for our finale was incredibly powerful is an understatement. Wow. So exciting…”
“While everyone was heading into the weekend amped and excited, I thought of you all… reminded of the countless moments when your enthusiasm and passion became the driving force behind our creative journey. Your commitment to our saga has had a unique impact on its success and evolution… as my youngest daughter would say, it’s profound.”
The actor also took a moment to thank the global audience, “Thank you for being the backbone of this global saga that because of you, transcends the screen,” he added.
“This grand finale is not just an ending; it’s a celebration of the incredible family we’ve built together.”
Certainly, with the final film of the franchise, Diesel “hopes to make” everyone proud to celebrate the legacy the saga has created. But all things come to an end, still, it means the possibilities for new spin-offs, perhaps, another one with Johnson’s Hobbs.
Fast II is expected to hit the theaters on April 4, 2025.
