Melissa Barrera, known for her role as Sam Carpenter in Scream and Scream VI, was dismissed from the franchise following her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Shortly after, it was revealed that Ortega also exited the movie, citing scheduling conflicts with the second season of Wednesday. Although there has been speculation about other reasons for Ortega’s departure, she has not publicly addressed the matter.

In recent developments, Jenna Ortega has expressed her strong opinions regarding the controversial dismissal of Melissa Barrera from Scream 7. Ortega believes Hollywood’s excessive political correctness played a significant role in her former co-star’s removal from the project.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, Ortega discussed Barrera’s firing last November, following the latter’s social media comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Ortega criticized the entertainment industry for being overly sensitive, which she feels discourages professionals from addressing important issues honestly. “The business that we work in is so touchy-feely. Everybody wants to be politically correct, but I feel like, in doing that, we lose a lot of our humanity and integrity because it lacks honesty,” Ortega stated.

Barrera’s unexpected dismissal had immediate repercussions for Scream 7, leading to Ortega’s withdrawal from the sequel, citing scheduling conflicts a day after Barrera’s departure. Ortega hopes that this incident will encourage more open and constructive conversations in Hollywood. “I wish that we had a better sense of conversation. Imagine if everyone could say what they felt and not be judged for it and, if anything, it sparked some sort of debate, not an argument,” Ortega remarked.

Ortega’s insights highlight the tension between maintaining political correctness and fostering genuine dialogue in the film and TV industry. Her comments suggest a need for a balance where honesty and integrity are preserved without fear of backlash. As Hollywood continues to navigate these complex issues, voices like Ortega’s may pave the way for more authentic and meaningful conversations within the industry.

Melissa Barrera, the actress renowned for her roles in films like In the Heights and the television series Vida, expressed a profound sense of personal growth and gratitude for the experiences leading to this point. In a conversation with the Associated Press, Barrera remarked on her recent journey, stating, “Honestly, I think I finally am becoming who I’m supposed to be in life, and the last few months have been a big awakening of that. I’m just so grateful for everything that’s happened.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Barrera, delved deeper into the circumstances surrounding her exit and her reflections on the future of the “Scream” franchise. The departure had left her in a challenging state of mind, yet she acknowledged the immense support from her team and publicists. They were credited with providing crucial support during this tumultuous period. “None of this makes me happy,” she added, emphasizing the emotional toll the exit had taken. The deep connection she felt with the franchise and its unfortunate conclusion was noted with sadness.

Barrera also took a moment to commend her co-stars, particularly Jenna Ortega, who had portrayed her sister in Scream. Barrera spoke warmly of their relationship, indicating that they had discussed their decisions and remained supportive of each other. “We chatted for a while, and I love her so much. She’s been very supportive of me, and we’re sisters for life,” she shared.

Addressing the possibility of returning to the Scream franchise in the future, Barrera kept her options open yet realistic. She expressed cautious optimism, suggesting that while anything is possible, significant changes would be necessary for her character, Sam, to return. “I’ve learned to never say never, but also a lot of things would have to happen for Sam to come back,” she noted. For now, Barrera is focused on the next chapter of her career, looking forward to what the future holds.

In a related development, the return of original Scream star Neve Campbell for the forthcoming sequel was announced earlier this year. When asked if she had discussed this with Campbell, Barrera chose not to comment, leaving fans to speculate on any potential conversations or collaborations that might have occurred behind the scenes.
