Josh Hartnett gave fans a scare last week after being hospitalized following a car accident in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The Trap and Oppenheimer star was a passenger in an SUV that collided with a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) patrol vehicle shortly before 1 a.m. on Thursday, September 25. Fortunately, Hartnett only sustained minor injuries and has since returned to work on his Netflix project.
Josh Hartnett Hospitalized After Collision in St. John’s

Josh Hartnett, 47, was in Newfoundland filming a limited series for Netflix when the crash occurred. Police reports state the collision happened at the intersection of New Cove Road and Elizabeth Avenue, causing significant damage to both vehicles. Hartnett was traveling home from set when the SUV he was in collided with the RNC vehicle.
According to RNC communications officer Const. James Cadigan, three people were taken to the hospital: a 59-year-old man who was driving the SUV, Hartnett, and the police officer involved. Authorities described the actor’s injuries as minor, while the officer was transported as a precaution.

Hartnett’s representative, Susan Patricola, reassured fans days later, telling USA TODAY: the actor was “looked at and then released back to work.” Production on the Netflix series, she added, was not affected by the incident.
The RNC continues to investigate and has appealed for public assistance. “RNC collision analysts are seeking any witnesses or video footage (CCTV, dash-camera, cell phone) from the area in the lead up to, or immediately following the collision,” officials said in a statement (via EW).
Josh Hartnett’s Netflix Project and Career Momentum

The accident happened while Hartnett was filming an untitled six-episode Netflix series created by Jesse McKeown. The show, which films and takes place in Newfoundland, follows a fisherman who must protect his family and community after a sea creature begins terrorizing the town.
Hartnett not only stars in the project but also serves as an executive producer. He leads a strong cast that includes Mackenzie Davis (Speak No Evil) and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things).
Hartnett’s return to television represents another high point in a career resurgence. Once known as a teen heartthrob with roles in The Virgin Suicides and Black Hawk Down, the actor has steadily rebuilt his reputation with daring choices in film and television.
In the last few years, he’s impressed audiences with his work in Black Mirror’s “Beyond the Sea” episode and his performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly last year, Hartnett reflected on how his career has evolved: “As an actor, I want to constantly switch the trajectory and mess with people’s expectations. I wanted to do that the whole time from when I started 26 years ago. But at the time, the opportunity wasn’t there for me to play all of these disparate characters within the studio system, nor was I probably good enough. I was so young.”
“As I’ve gotten older, people have seen that potential in me more, and now I’m able to do it in these other films and TV shows. Personally, I’m really just feeling super lucky to be working with the directors I’m working with because, really, actors are only as good as their directors. So to be able to work with directors who are at the top of their game right now, and being able to play these characters that are so disparate, is a dream come true for me, honestly.”
As of yet, the current situation of the actor is under wraps.
