Oz Perkings’ Longlegs is climbing the ladder of success at the box office while being the critical darling. While the movie has impressed the critics, Oscar-winning filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro who has a fair share of stunning horror movies to his credit, has recently given his honest verdict on the movie that stars Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe.

Legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro who has three Oscars to his credit including Best Director for his 2027 fantasy, The Shape of Water, commented on Oz Perkins’ recent horror flick Longlegs. Taking to his X handle, the director detailed his opinion of the movie.

LONGLEGS (2024) A great Oz Perkins film- 100% his vibe. It is comforting when a colleague fares well while staying faithful to the rhythms and motifs that have made his career. His metronome, his meticulous composition and his uncanny sense of evil and impending doom. pic.twitter.com/UkbqYMqqD3

“LONGLEGS (2024) A great Oz Perkins film- 100% his vibe,” del Toro wrote on the platform. “It is comforting when a colleague fares well while staying faithful to the rhythms and motifs that have made his career.   His metronome, his  meticulous composition and his uncanny sense of evil and impending doom,” he added.

The director went on to add that he thoroughly enjoyed the performance of Nilocals Cage who played the title character of a killer. “Loved that evil Tiny-Tim-esque Cage (our last and best expressionist performer) the Satanic Panic gloom: a closed maze where evil eats the casual stroller.”  As for Perkins, del Toro said, “Perkins’ odd, super-dry (quasi exfoliating) humor: T-Rex, the occasional ironic line “You’ll still be in the kitchen”

SUGGESTED: ‘Longlegs’ Director Oz Perkins Will Never Watch Mia Goth’s ‘MaXXXine’ Or Any Other Contemporary Horror Movie

“It’s not horror as usual, or a thriller as usual.  It bares the same preoccupations Oz has had from the start and his Cosmic dread.  It is his vibe and signature and I am delighted he is getting more people to know it.”

Del Toro’s verdict on the movie is definitely positive as Perkins has created something unique that, in some ways, differentiates the narrative from the usual horror and thriller experience.

Oz Perkins Said He Had No Intention To Scare The Audience

Oz Perkins is a director possessing very unique traits under his sleeves. The director recently shared that he does not watch contemporary horror despite its popularity. In a recent chat with Deadline, Perkins shared another truth bomb revealing that he had no intention to scare the audience off with Longlegs that stars scream queen Maika Monroe. “I subscribe to the same ideology of ‘I didn’t mean it,’” Perkins told the outlet.

SUGGESTED: What Inspired Nicolas Cage To Play Serial Killer In ‘Longlegs’?

“And I almost mean it like a kid who broke something and they’re like, ‘Nah, I didn’t mean to do that. It was an accident.’ I only set out to make people feel good. I never set out to make people feel bad, and I don’t know that any film director does, but I know that I don’t. And I think people don’t feel bad. I think people dig the feeling that they’re having, so that’s great. But my intention was just to make something I thought was cool. That’s all.” he added.

However, surprisingly, the director delivered a stunning jarring experience with an intriguing thrill that continued throughout the narrative.

Longlegs is now showing in theaters.
