Ewan McGregor is all set to appear in Paramount Plus’ A Gentleman in Moscow alongside his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Based on the Amor Towles’ novel of the same name, McGregor plays Count Alexander Rostov. As the script demanded s*x scene with his wife who plays Anna Urbanova in the show, the actor didn’t refuse an intimacy coordinator but rather welcomed the coordinator observing the scene.

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has no problem having an intimacy coordinator on set even when having s*x with his wife in his upcoming show A Gentleman in Moscow. The actor revealed that his s*x scene with his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the show was supervised by an intimacy coordinator. In a chat with Radio Times, the actor revealed that it is not about familiarity but it’s weird to get n*ked in front of other people. So, he welcomed the coordinator.
“It’s still necessary, because it’s also about the crew, and it’s odd to be naked in front of people, it’s odd to be intimate in front of the camera,” McGregor told the Radio Times (via Independent).
He added:
“If you were doing a dance scene, you’d have a choreographer. It’s an important part of the work now, because it’s somebody that the director and actors meet in the middle.”
Employing intimacy coordinators has been a common practice in studios during production, especially if a scene contains sexual elements.

McGregor went on to detail the importance of the intimacy coordinator in the landscape of filmmaking. The actor further revealed that he is keen on promoting the culture for his daughter Esther Rose McGregor, whom he shares with his first wife Eve Mavrakis. As Esther followed her father’s footsteps to become an actor, the Christopher Robin star seemed to be a little protective of his daughter.
“My daughter [Esther] is 22. If an older, famous director goes to a 22-year-old and says, ‘I want you to be naked in this scene,’ that actress might feel, ‘Oh, my God, I’ve got to do it, my career might depend on it,” he told the outlet.
He added:
“And then five years after that, she could look back and go, ‘I wish I hadn’t. Why am I naked in that scene? It’s unnecessary.’ Now there’s somebody she talks to whose career doesn’t rest on the shoulders of this person.”
McGregor previously revealed that he has never been comfortable filming s*x scenes but as an actor, everyone must endure things they don’t like, the 52-year-old is also not immune to that.
A Gentleman in Moscow will debut on Paramount Plus on 31 March 2024
