She added that the move happened because she and Hugh Dancy “had this oopsy daisy third baby” in 2023. That moment set the stage for a deeper, far more emotional conversation.
“I was so old when that happened. I was 44,” she said, admitting she “didn’t think it was possible” to get pregnant at that age. The surprise did not come with instant celebration. Instead, Danes found herself navigating complicated emotions she never expected to feel as a seasoned mother of two.
“I did not foresee this at all. And it was weird. Suddenly, I felt like a funny shame,” she explained. “Like I was naughty. Like I had been caught fornicating past the point I was meant to. No, it was weird, and it was like I found an edge that I hadn’t been quite conscious of — like I was going outside of the parameters a little bit. That was wild.”
Her honesty made the hosts lean in. When Bateman asked if she had a girl this time, Danes confirmed she did. His joke about her being frustrated if the third child had been another boy made her laugh, but she clarified what she really felt.
“I got really, really lucky,” she said. “I mean, my OB-GYN was like, ‘You know you’re having another boy.’ But no!” She added that she “would have been delighted” with another son, yet she is even “more delighted” to now have a daughter who “loves a tutu,” a detail that made the hosts laugh and agree, “Who doesn’t?”
