Zack Snyder has achieved his cinematic feat in several movies including his highly acclaimed and widely celebrated Zombie flick Dawn of the Dead but the director is primarily known for his DC tenure. Snyder has established his own universe at DC known as Snyderverse. Starring Henry Cavill as Superman, the director chronicled the origin story of DC’s iconic hero in his 2013 movie Man of Steel. While the movie dwindled to be a critical darling despite having ever-charming Cavill on board, Snyder’s long-time pal Christopher Nolan hailed one particular scene that was, according to the Oppenheimer director, iconic.
Christopher Nolan Hailed One Iconic Scene From Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel
Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is an inherently action-packed superhero movie based on Superman’s origin story that chronicles the very myth surrounding the character. Starring Russel Crowe as his biological father Jor-El, the narrative showed fans the backstory of the character like never before. Superman landed on Earth and was raised by Kevin Costner’s Jonathan Kent and Diane Lane’s Martha Kent.
The Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan, who seemingly enjoyed the movie, was fond of a particular scene. “The moment in Man of Steel where Kevin Costner tells young Clark that whatever his origin, he’s still his son puts a lump in my throat every time,” Nolan said of the scene (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The director who recently won an Oscar for directing Oppenheimer also hailed Snyder for his prowess in creating iconic imagery. “Zack is best known for his facility with iconic image making, but his casting instincts are second to none.”
Despite its flaws, Man of Steel is one of the most important movies in the DC Universe which adheres to the character arc of Superman and the later movies that followed in his tenure at DC.
Christopher Nolan Was Pretty Much Involved In Man of Steel
Nolan who was busy filming his last installment to The Dark Knight trilogy while Man of Steel was in production, was still very much involved with the Snyder movie. Appeared for a chat with Total Film, Snyder shared how Nolan was involved in the superhero flick. Nolan was really excited, Snyder shared, “and I think that, um, and maybe a bit relieved. I don’t know for sure, I couldn’t tell, he’s hard to read as a person as you know? But you know, genuinely like this is a you’ve done an amazing job,” he said of Nolan’s appreciation for the film.
“I mean I talked to him a bit on the phone,” Snyder continued. “And you know, we would just talk about you know different aspects of production and whatever and I think what he actually saw the cut you know to see it all together you know it must have been such a what a feeling for him because I know that he’d never produced a movie before I know that he’d ever really worked on a movie that he didn’t direct yeah so um must be quite a thing.”
Nolan produced Man of Steel alongside his wife Emma Thomas joining Charles Roven, Curtis Kanemoto, and Snyder’s wife Deborah Snyder. Made with a production budget of $225 million, Man of Steel earned $668 million at the global box office.
