Casey Affleck has had a brilliant career in Hollywood, particularly known for his script selection. The actor has done wonders in several roles including his breakthrough movie The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford for which he earned an Oscar nod and finally claimed the award to put it in his bag for his groundbreaking performance in Manchester by the Sea. The actor who is also the brother of actor/director Ben Affleck, recently appeared in The Instigator but the way he got the role is quite interesting.

Casey Affleck kind of starred himself in Doug Liman-directed The Instigator. Affleck went through Matt Damon’s wife Luciana Barroso, convincing her to keep him as a star in the movie after Damon refused to respond to his proposal. “Yeah, I mean you do what you got to do,” Affleck admitted appearing for a chat with SiriusXM podcast joining alongside his co-stars Damon and Hong Chau.
“I kept sending him things that were really good and you know I wouldn’t hear back or you wouldn’t want to do it I was like something’s wrong here finally I found the person who has good taste in that house,” the actor added taking a funny jibe on Damon.
The Instigators is a heist comedy penned by Chuck Maclean and Affleck himself. The Apple TV+ movie follows a botched robbery, two thieves go on the run, dragging one of their therapists along with them. The movie is produced by Damon and his long-time pal and business partner Ben Affleck through their production company Artists Equity. Now, we have a clear picture of why Casey wanted the movie to happen at any cost.

While Damon was reluctant to listen to Casey’s proposal for the movie, sending a copy of his script to Luciana Barroso did wonders. Damon admitted that trusts his wife who has been involved with several executive decisions. “Yeah, I mean, I just trust her taste,” Damon said on the podcast.
“We’ve been together for 21 years, and she’s been informally producing everything and been a big part of all of the decision-making for my career. She’s been my partner in all of that,” the actor continued.
However, interestingly, Barroso initially refused to take credit for the movie as Damon explained, “And so, on this movie, we finally said, ‘Why don’t you just officially do it?’ She was there at the inception of the movie and has been reading all the drafts. We convinced her to do it, and then she said, ‘I’m not going to take credit because it’s my first movie.’ The other producers, out of nowhere, said, ‘We’re not taking credit unless you take credit.’ So, she’s got a credit on the movie. It’s great. I’m really proud of her. She has terrific taste.”
The Instigators also stars Cobra Kai star, Paul Walter Hauser, alongside Michael Stuhlbarg, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, Toby Jones, Jack Harlow, Ron Perlman, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
The Instigators is streaming on Apple TV+.
