Oscar winner actress Anne Hathaway has revealed some “gross” experience she had to go through during the 2000s. Though she has not named anyone while speaking out about this horrific time, she has stated that it was such a time when all these things were considered normal.

Anne Hathaway Was Asked to Engage in “make out” Sessions with Multiple Potential Co-stars

In an interview with V magazine, Anne Hathaway, The Devil Wears Prada star has revealed some bizarre audition practices and how it was seen as a normal act. Recalling one of her auditions from the 2000s, Hathaway said that she was asked to kiss 10 guys to “test for chemistry.” Describing the process as “gross,” she told V magazine, “Back in the 2000s – and this did happen to me – it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it.”

Back then, it was done to check whether two stars who would be playing the roles had a bond between them.

“I was told, ‘We have 10 guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ Because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross.”

Anne Hathaway just pretended that she was excited. She further added:

“And I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled ‘difficult’, so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it. It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me.”

She said that those were different times and now it’s far better and they know it how to do it.

How Anne Hathaway Conducted The Idea of You Audition?

Those were Anne Hathaway’s initial days. Time has passed since then. She has starred in movies like The Dark Knight Rises, Alice in Wonderland, and Interstellar. And now she is serving as a producer in her new film The Idea of You, which is about the relationship between a single mother and a boy band star. Nicholas Galitzine is her new co-star.

As she takes on the role of a producer, she reflects on how she has conducted an audition for this film.

“We asked each of the actors coming in to choose a song that they felt their character would love, that they would put on to get my character to dance, and then we’d do a short little improv,” recalled Hathaway.

“I was sitting in a chair like we had come in from dinner or a walk or something, we pressed play, and we just started dancing together.”

She added that Galitzine chose a song by the rock group Alabama Shakes, who are fronted by singer Brittany Howard.

“And he saw me smile, so he relaxed, and we just started dancing. Nobody was showing off. Nobody was trying to get the gig. We were just in a space dancing. I looked over and Michael Showalter, our director, was beaming. Spark!”

The film, based on Robinne Lee’s novel, follows the romance between a 40-year-old art gallery owner, Solene (played by Hathaway), and Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the 24-year-old lead singer of a boy band.

The Idea of You is set for a streaming release on Prime Video on May 2.
