- Through her production company, Lawrence plans to express her political views creatively, letting her work speak louder than her words.
Jennifer Lawrence, once one of Hollywood’s most outspoken critics of Donald Trump, is taking a different approach this time around. The Oscar-winning actress, who had been vocal during Trump’s first administration, now believes that publicly criticizing him might do more harm than good. As the president returns to the White House for a second term, Lawrence is rethinking how — and whether — her voice should enter the political arena again. Her reflections, shared in The New York Times’ The Interview podcast, offer a rare moment of self-awareness in an era when celebrity opinions often fuel more division than dialogue.
Jennifer Lawrence Questions the Impact of Celebrity Activism

Jennifer Lawrence has never been shy about sharing her thoughts, but she now admits she’s unsure if speaking out still helps anyone.
“I don’t really know if I should. The first Trump administration was so wild and just how can we let this stand? I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for. So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart. We are so divided.”
Her words reveal a shift from outrage to introspection. Lawrence isn’t backing away out of fear but from a realization that her influence might not translate into real change. The actress points to the growing polarization across the U.S., where every statement seems to widen the gap instead of bridging it. In her view, the current climate is less about conversation and more about confrontation.
The Hunger Games star also touched on how political expression can ripple through Hollywood. She acknowledged that outspoken views can alienate audiences, ultimately hurting the very art that might otherwise unite people. “I think I’m in a complicated recalibration because I’m also an artist,” she explained.
“With this temperature and the way things can turn out, I don’t want to start turning people off to films and to art that could change consciousness or change the world because they don’t like my political opinions. I want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what I’m doing. And if I can’t say something that’s going to speak to some kind of peace or lowering the temperature or some sort of solution, I don’t want to be a part of the problem.”
Lawrence’s concern goes beyond herself. She empathized with actors who faced backlash simply for speaking their minds. “You watch these actors’ faces who have had incredible careers and made incredible contributions and then one half of the internet doesn’t want to see their face anymore. I get so upset for those people and it feels so wrong,” she said.
Jennifer Lawrence Lets Her Art Speak Louder than Her Politics

Instead of amplifying her voice on social media or in interviews, Jennifer Lawrence has decided to channel her views through storytelling. Her production company, she revealed, will be her new outlet for expression. “I try to express my politics through my work. A lot of movies coming out from my production company are expressions of the political landscape and that’s how I feel like I can be helpful,” she said.
It’s a mature pivot — one that highlights her belief in the power of art to influence hearts and minds more effectively than heated rhetoric. Through film, Lawrence hopes to inspire thought rather than division.
Still, she hasn’t lost her signature humor or candor. Reflecting on her past political remarks, Lawrence quipped, “Probably? I regret everything I’ve ever done or said. I’m going to take the zip drives out of all of these cameras when I leave. The second term feels different. Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
With this, Jennifer Lawrence’s message is clear: she hasn’t stopped caring about the country — she’s just choosing a wiser, more creative way to make her voice heard.
