COVID-19 was one of the biggest tragedies the world has ever witnessed. Amid the devastating tragedy where millions have died and suffered a huge loss, Legendary actor Al Pacino recently shared that he did not have a pulse for a while as he contracted coronavirus in 2020. In a recent interview, the 84-year-old candidly shared that his near-death experience was terrifying.
Al Pacino Had a Near-death Experience
Al Pacino needs no introduction. The legendary actor has been active in the industry for over 55 years with a stunning legacy and accolades to his name since his debut in Fred Coe’s romance comedy, Me, Natalie in 1969. Pacino, although he is still very active in the industry, recently shared that he had a “shocking” near-death experience during COVID-19.
“So, I got someone to get me a nurse to hydrate me. I was sitting there in my house, and I was gone. Like that. I didn’t have a pulse,” Pacino said of the terrifying incident during his conversation with The New York Times while promoting his latest memoir, Sonny Boy. “In a matter of minutes they were there — the ambulance in front of my house. I had about six paramedics in that living room, and there were two doctors, and they had these outfits on that looked like they were from outer space or something,” he added.
The Scent of a Woman further revealed that he did not feel much unusual about his heath but eventually, he had a fever and got dehydrated which is quite common in typical infections of the disease.
Al Pacino Explained His Near-Death Experience
As Pacino went on to reveal the details of the horrific experience, the actor added that it was “shocking” to open his eyes to get the gist of the situation he was in. “Everybody was around me, and they said: ‘He’s back. He’s here,’” The Scarface actor told the outlet. But speaking of “metaphysical ripples,” the actor shared that it did as he did not see white light as typically referred by individuals who had near-death experiences.
“There’s nothing there. As Hamlet says, ‘To be or not to be’; ‘The undiscovered country from whose bourn, no traveler returns.’ And he says two words: ‘No more,’ It was no more. You’re gone. I’d never thought about it in my life. But you know actors: It sounds good to say I died once. What is it when there’s no more?” The Oscar winner said.
But the experience has changed Pacino’s perception of death, “It’s natural, I guess, to have a different view of death as you get older,” Pacino said adding, “It’s just the way it is. I didn’t ask for it. Just comes, like a lot of things just come.”
Pacino has recently teamed up with Dan Stevens for David Midell’s exorcism horror film The Ritual (not to be confused with David Bruckner’s horror mystery of the same name). Besides the horror movie, Pacino is working on several upcoming projects as well, including Modi, a biopic about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, directed by Johnny Depp.
