In a heartwarming tribute to his late friend, actress Jenna Ortega has shared a poignant memory of Cameron Boyce’s unwavering support and respect. During a joint audition when they were teenagers, Boyce exhibited remarkable maturity and empathy by halting the proceedings when both felt uncomfortable with the intimate scene.
Jenna Ortega Recalls Cameron Boyce’s Kindness in an Uncomfortable Audition Moment
Jenna Ortega shared a touching story about her late friend and fellow actor, Cameron Boyce. Five years after Boyce’s untimely passing in 2019, Ortega looked back on an audition they attended together as teens, during which Boyce took a stand to stop an uncomfortable situation. Ortega, who has recently done Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, revealed how Boyce stepped in to prevent an on-screen kiss that neither of them felt comfortable with.
Both Disney Channel stars from a young age, Ortega and Boyce had formed a friendship over the years. In an interview with French TV outlet Canal+ (Via PEOPLE), Ortega recalled their last encounter, which happened shortly before Boyce tragically passed away at the age of 20 after suffering a seizure in his sleep.
Ortega, now 21, explained that they had been cast as love interests in a joint audition, but when the moment came where they were supposed to kiss, Boyce intervened. “The last time I saw my friend Cameron Boyce,” Ortega said, “we were supposed to kiss [in an audition], and he knew me since I was 11 or 12. This is a few years later, 15 or 16, and we were supposed to be love interests.”
Boyce had immediately sensed the discomfort in the situation. “We both just kinda looked at each other and we were like, ‘No, we can’t do this,’” Ortega shared, emphasizing how natural it was for Boyce to speak up in that moment. He had been older than her at the time, which made the situation feel even more awkward for them both. His decision to halt the scene reflected his sensitivity and concern for how she was feeling. Ortega added, “I was uncomfortable, and I was having a hard time. And then, we wished each other well.“
Boyce’s empathetic actions left a lasting impact on Ortega, who expressed her deep gratitude for his kindness that day.
Earlier It Was Anne Hathaway Who Talked About Kissing In an Audition
In an interview with V Magazine, Hathaway recalled a time when she had been asked to kiss multiple men during a chemistry test in the early 2000s. Reflecting on the uncomfortable experience, Hathaway said, “It was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it.”
She had been puzzled and disturbed by the request, stating, “I thought it sounded gross.” She said that those were different times and now it’s far better and they know how to do it.
