The news of Brendan Gleeson’s casting in the series came after Variety’s source exclusively reported in July that the actor would be a part of it. Now, the latest report from the outlet confirmed The Banshees of Inisherin actor who claimed an Oscar nod for the movie, is joining Cage in the upcoming series. Gleeson’s role in the show has not been confirmed as of yet but it is highly expected to be a major villainous role.

The series which is currently titled Spider-Man Noir follows “the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero,” per official logline. The show also stars Lamorne Morris, Abraham Popoola, and Li Jun Li.

Spider-Man Noir will debut domestically on MGM Plus’ linear channel. The show will have a global release on Amazon Prime Video. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. The duo developed the series with the Into the Spider-Verse team including Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal; they will also executive produce the series with Harry Bradbeer directing the first two episodes. Release info of the series has been under wraps.
