It is not always ironclad for a movie to be good based on what critics say. There are countless examples including Hotel Transylvania, Venom, or Grown Ups— fans loved these movies while critics were not so kind. Now, it seems Bill Skarsgard and FKA twigs’ latest movie, The Crow, which is a reboot of Brandon Lee’s original 1994 movie has been enjoyed by fans.
The Crow Is A Critical Disaster
The Crow has been one of the highly anticipated movies of 2024. There were multiple attempts by several studios and filmmakers to reboot the movie from the original but it came to fruition when Rupert Sanders helmed the movie under the banner of Lionsgate Pictures.
However, following the theatrical debut of the movie starring Bill Skarsgard and FKA twigs in the primary roles, it entered Rotten Tomatoes with a diminishing 6% score on Tomatometer. Of course, it moved ahead but still not anywhere near the ‘certified fresh’ certificate. The Crow currently has a 24% score while Alex Proyas-directed and Brandon Lee-starrer cult classic has a stunning 86% positive score.
Based on the dark fantasy superhero comic book series of the same name created by James O’Barr, both movies narrate relatively similar storylines but the execution and directorial styles are very contrasting. It would be interesting to see if the new The Crow movie meets the box office goal as it was made on a reported budget of $50 million.
Fans Are Loving The Crow
Fan following of the original The Crow movie is astounding. While several fans were skeptical about the movie’s reboot, many hailed the new movie giving seemingly deserved praise.
While the Crow may have received mixed reviews, I found it to be an enjoyable film. Despite some issues, I appreciated the added depth and development of the #theCrow character, as well as the gore. It stands on its own as a distinct story, I found it to be worth watching. pic.twitter.com/OYHhvDqc7D

I went and saw #TheCrow last night and I’m so floored by the amount of emotion that spilled out of that film. Bill gave such a heart wrenching performance as Eric and FKA Twigs really shines as Shelly. Brutal action and an overall beautiful adaptation.🖤🩸 pic.twitter.com/t1xljm58xq

Absolutely loved THE CROW. A modern gothic romance that plays like TWILIGHT for scumbags (complimentary). The chemistry between the leads is great, there’s some excellent visuals and jaw dropping gore.
Really *really* surprised by this one! pic.twitter.com/3ckteMGMx2

Bill Skarsgård the man that you are. Who brought something completely new to The Crow 2024. I absolutely loved the look of him. He brought a whole new version of The Crow and was absolutely menacing. He made it his own. People should definitely be giving him his flowers #TheCrow pic.twitter.com/NXycarKSBm

Geez, I feel old now.
I went to see the new “The Crow” movie last night.
Although I enjoyed the movie it immediately brought back bad memories. Much like hearing a song from High School recalls an event or feeling.

If you can get past the Jared Leto Joker look in #TheCrow it is a pretty good time. It adds more meat to the story of the first film and builds characters better. There is also an action sequence later in the film that had my theater clapping. 7.7/10 pic.twitter.com/mBe6BOyx79

It is fair to assume that the negative reviews mostly came from the high expectations of the movie considering the original movie’s high praise which still has a soft corner among fans. However, both the directors brought different cards with their different visions. While Proyas gave the movie a classy touch, Sanders added a modern flavor to it.
The Crow is now showing in theaters.
