WARNING: The Following Content Contains SPOILERS for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 6. As HBO’s flagship House of the Dragon season 2, episode 6 was released on July 21, the final plot twist has forced fans to spark a huge discussion. While Daemon Targaryen is away battling his own demon at Harrenhal while building up an army, his wife Rhaenyra surprises fans as she engages in a passionate kiss with Mysaria. Here’s why it is deeper than it seems.
Rhaenyra Kissed Mysaria In House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 6
In the final moments of the House of the Dragon season 2 episode 6, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) kisses Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) who is also known as The White Worm. The queer eroticism revealed in the episode is just the tip of the iceberg of what is seemingly going to unfold huge complications in the relationship of Daemon (Matt Smith), Rhaenyra, and of course, the queen’s right-hand Mysaria.
For context, Mysaria used to have regular sex with Daemon when Rhaenyra was just a child. Now the question remains, is HBO looking to make a love triangle or a devastating turning point in their relationship? Only time will tell but the kiss between Rhaenyra and Mysaria clearly indicates the longing of the queen in the absence of her husband from the Dragonstone.
D’Arcy and Mizuno spoke with Variety about their on-screen kiss in the show’s latest episode. “Honestly, I think initially there was just such a desire to connect,” D’Arcy told the outlet. “I think what you see initially is intimacy, and an intimacy that Rhaenyra shares so rarely. Even in some of her other romantic relationships, there’s a lot of presentation, there’s a lot of bravado, often from both sides. Certainly with Daemon, I think both parties struggle to reveal themselves in weakness, and that their eroticism is sort of predicated on power,” she added.
Adding further on the kiss, D’Arcy continued, “Whereas with Mysaria, in this growing relationship — it’s remarkably honest.” Also, breaking down the moments that led to the kiss, she said that initially, there were “huge feelings of empathy and gratitude” toward Mysaria. “Rhaenyra is hugely affected by the life that Mysaria has lived so bravely. Then, they are two bodies completely overrun by touch. As soon as they embrace and their bodies are touching, I think it’s pure bodily desire.”
Of course, the intent of the kiss was a spark that had been growing inside both of them for quite a while, the touches were just the fuel that propelled the romantic outburst between the characters.
Rhaenyra And Mysaria Kiss Sparked A Huge Discussion Among Fans
The kiss between Rhaenyra and Mysaria has since exploded internet as it has turned out to be a major discussion among the fans of the show. While some fans were supportive of the queer kiss many have deemed it unnecessary.

Daemon and Rhaenyra shared castles, bodily fluids and now a sidepiece. #HouseOfTheDragon #HOTD

The gender fluid Queen. Rhaenyra is drawn to damaged people. The gender doesn’t matter to her.
Mysaria has always been a lesbian IMO. She has been intimate with many men but felt nothing for them.

The Rhaenyra and Mysaria kiss.
Rhaenyra suffering from lack of love and support, Mysaria provides all that

I guess we now know why the writers made Daemon a side character. No Nettles or Sara Snow

Mizuno understands that “people will have their own opinions about it” but both actors were surprised by the kiss in the script. “There’s nothing Machiavellian in it, as far as I’m concerned,” Mizuno previously told Variety. For Mizuno it was “a really beautiful, tender kiss, and it would be impossible not to feel something as Mysaria in that moment. I don’t think she has had that kind of kiss — maybe ever.” Certainly, the kiss was one of the biggest twists of the show so far as the characters had their sweet romantic moment against the backdrop of a civil war.
