Joseph Kosinski who previously directed Tom Cruise in Oblivion and Top Gun: Maverick is helping the new Brad Pitt movie, F1. As the first trailer of F1 was dropped recently, it has created a steady buzz among fans as most have noticed that the upcoming action-packed movie has striking similarities with the director’s Top Gun: Maverick.
Brad Pitt’s New Movie F1 Trailer Dropped
After a long wait, fans got a glimpse of Brad Pitt’s new movie look as the first trailer for F1 was dropped recently. Pitt plays Sonny Hayes. The movie will follow the 60-year-old actor, a Formula 1 driver who raced in the 1990s and met with a horrible crash which forced him to retire from Formula 1 and start racing in other disciplines.
Javier Bardem’s Ruben, Hayes’ old pal and Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP) team principal contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy, Joshua Pearce played by Damson Idris, on the APXGP.
The trailer of the movie shows Pitt speeding up in a thrilling ride. The movie also stars Kerry Condon as Kate, Tobias Menzies as Banning, Kim Bodnia as Kaspar, Shea Whigham as Chip Hart, Joseph Balderrama as Rico Fazio, Sarah Niles as Bernadette, Noah’s mother, Samson Kayo as Cashman, Callie Cooke as Jodie, and Layne Harper as Press.
Fans Found Striking Similarities Of F1 With Top Gun: Maverick
As the trailer of F1 dropped, fans could not help but notice the striking similarity of the Pitt-starrer movie with Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick which was one of the most successful movies of 2022 that earned over a stunning $1.49 billion at the box office. However, it is understandable that both movies have the same director, and perhaps, Joseph Kosinski is keen on delivering the same traits of action that made Top Gun: Maverick so successful. But the directorial style, according to fans, is clearly visible in the new trailer of the F1 movie resembling Cruise’s blockbuster but it’s no bummer.

Just a few years after the original Top Gun, Tom Cruise starred in Days of Thunder which was literally Top Gun but cars. I'm honestly not seeing a huge similarity besides "aging movie star goes fast."

The resemblance, however, is not necessarily a bad thing. Several directors are known for their unique styles of directing movies spreading across their works. Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick had several stunning visuals which is also apparent in his new summer release.
F1 is expected to hit the theaters on June27, 2025.
