After being involved in a snow plow accident in 2023, Jeremy Renner is approaching acting in a different way. The star of Mayor of Kingstown, Renner, acknowledges that he might no longer be playing “challenging” roles. The Oscar-nominated actor understands that, as he continues to deal with the fallout from the horrific snowplow accident last year, he lacks the “fuel” for elaborate roles.

Jeremy Renner, known for his powerful performances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and The Hurt Locker, shared his challenges in a recent Smartless podcast interview. Recovering from a severe snow plow accident, he admitted, “I just don’t have the energy for it. I don’t have the fuel.” Renner emphasized the effort required to focus on his health and recovery, saying, “I can’t just go play make-believe right now.

In January 2023, Renner experienced a near-fatal incident where his Sno-Cat, a hefty snow plow weighing over 14,000 pounds, ran him over, causing blunt chest trauma and multiple orthopedic injuries. After extensive rehabilitation, which involved healing more than 30 broken bones and learning to walk unassisted, he returned to the set of Mayor of Kingstown to film its third season.

Reflecting on his return to acting, Renner described it as a significant mental challenge. “I’m still trying to live in reality, I’m trying to live. So it was a hard line for me to cross. It was a big stretch,” he said.

Despite his struggles, he found solace in familiar roles, such as his character Mike McLusky in Mayor of Kingstown. Renner explained that if the role had been more demanding, like portraying a character far removed from his own persona, he might not have been able to take it on.

Looking ahead, Renner is set to star alongside Daniel Craig in the third Knives Out film, Wake Up Dead Man, marking his first movie role since the accident. He joins an impressive cast, including Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Josh Brolin, Josh O’Connor, and Cailee Spaeny. Additionally, Renner has shown interest in reprising his role as Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
