Prime Video series The Boys has been a huge hit with the previous seasons. As the fourth season of the satire superpowered series is headed to drop its fourth season, it has made Rotten Tomatoes debut with a stunning score continuing the legacy of the series that stars Antony Starr as John Gillman/Homelander. However, season 4 of The Boys also created an unwanted record on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Boys season 4 debuts on Rotten Tomatoes with a stunning 80% score, however, the season also ranked lowest when compared to the previous seasons’ scores. The debut season of the series scored 85% on the review-aggregation site. The second and third seasons were respectively 97% and 98%.

The lowest critics’ score of the show is somewhat concerning for the acclaimed series. Previously, The Boys was renewed for its fifth season long before the premiere of the fourth.

Eric Kripke for The Boys season 4, however, does not intend to eclipse the euphoria of the ending of the previous seasons. “We always want every season finale to feel big obviously,” Kripke told Jonatan Blomberg from MovieZine. “But we’re never trying to like top the previous season. We’re just trying to bring that storyline to a head and, um, yes, I’m very pleased uh with how it wrapped up I also had the honor of directing that last episode and uh I’m thrilled with how it how it turned out I think people will be blown away.

The hype for The Boys season 4 is massive, and of course, this season will bring an astonishing number of viewers to the streaming giant despite being the lowest-rated season so far.

Critics’ unanimous consensus scored The Boys season 4 a decent score based on 35 reviews so far, here are what critics think of the fourth installment of the series—

“The Boys continues to thrill fans with great balance between sharp satire humor, shocking moments and bloody, violent action mayhem. Another solid, satisfactory season, yet truly not quite as great as the previous season.” — Fico Cangiano, CineXpress.

“With so many characters to juggle, some are better served than others through these eight new episodes, but overall, it’s another strong season. It’s impressive how much The Boys can still deliver the goods.” — Eric Goldman, Eric Goldman’s Cultured Pop

“The Boys Season 4 can’t capitalize on all its competing plotlines, but still delivers the show’s signature shock and awe entertainment.” — Matt Donato, IGN Movies.

“Once at the cutting-edge of satire, The Boys Season 4 is stuck on autopilot.” — Dais Johnston, Inverse

“[The] show is in its fourth season. The superhero subgenre has witnessed a change. The USA has lived through the Biden presidency. But it seems like The Boys has not only become the very thing it was satirizing, but it has also lost its bite.” — Pramit Chatterjee, Digital Mafia Talkies.
