Who does not get lured by the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Yes, definitely there are some who choose not to say yes to any superhero movies, but if any actor wants to go for such a genre, then MCU is one the top of their options. And if the actor has already done so much for the studio, then it’s on a completely different level. Yes, we’re talking about Robert Downey Jr., the Oscar-winning actor who was the poster boy of the MCU once again discusses his desire to come to play Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr. has once again commented on the possibility of portraying the role of Iron Man which made both his and MCU’s future. In April this year, during an interview, he said that that particular role is in his DNA and that role chooses him.

And, now, for yet another time, Downey Jr. said that he would love to play the role. During a conversation with actress Jodie Foster for Variety’s Actors on Actors segment, Downey Jr. revealed a shift in his stance on revisiting the iconic role. When Foster directly asked if he’d consider suiting up again as Tony Stark, Downey Jr.’s response was nothing short of intriguing.

According to Downey Jr., Tony Stark holds a special place for him. He expressed, “It’s just crazily in my DNA. Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am.”

The interview then took a surprising turn. Downey Jr. admitted to being “surprisingly open-minded to the idea” of returning. This is a significant change for the actor, who previously seemed hesitant to revisit the role after Tony Stark’s heroic sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame.

The Oscar-winning actor first portrayed Tony Stark in the 2008 film, Iron Man. He went on to play the superhero in two more Iron Man films as well as three Avengers films between 2015 and 2019, Captain America: Civil War in 2016 and Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. And in 2019, he left his role as Iron Man which became synonymous with the MCU.

Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man, Tony Stark, became synonymous with the MCU. While Tony’s heroic sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame seemingly closed the chapter on his story, recent comments by RDJ suggest a potential return. This, coupled with the MCU’s exploration of the multiverse, has fans buzzing with theories about Iron Man’s future.

The MCU Multiverse Saga has created numerous opportunities for Tony Stark and Iron Man to reappear. In the animated series Marvel’s What If…?, several alternate versions of Tony Stark have already been depicted, with Mick Wingert providing the voice in place of Downey Jr.

Marvel enthusiasts have shown interest in various versions of Tony Stark from the comics, hoping to see Downey Jr. portray these characters. One notable version is the Tony Stark from the Earth-1610 “Ultimate Universe,” which likely inspired Downey Jr.’s casting as Iron Man. This version is believed to have inspired RDJ’s casting in the first place and could offer him a chance to further explore the character.

Another popular choice among fans is the Superior Iron Man, an evil version of Tony Stark created by magic from Scarlet Witch, which swapped the moral compasses of heroes and villains. The distinctive white and grey Apple-style armor and the character’s descent into villainy have made fans eager to see Downey Jr. tackle this darker incarnation of Iron Man.

Only time will tell how both sides work and what role the MCU offers Robert Downey Jr.
