Hugh Jackman made his debut as Wolverine in Bryan Singer’s X-Men released in 2000. He played the iconic character for the last time in 2017’s Logan and almost hung his boots from the role. But he made a comeback to the role for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds and Jackman, we have seen them both poking fun at each other, but this time, Reynolds has taken a jab at Jackman for making a return to the role after years.
Why Ryan Reynolds Called Hugh Jackman a “coward and liar?”
Is there anyone who is not excited to see the collaboration of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine? Most certainly not! Keeping aside their on-screen charisma, they share an even greater bond off-screen and are known for pulling each other’s legs on shows and interviews.
Jackman, who is bringing back his character after seven years has shown a glimpse of his magnitude in the trailers of Deadpool & wolverine, which is the only MCU movie releasing this year. But, his longtime friend Ryan Reynolds has name-called Jackman now. Reynolds has called Jackman a coward and liar for the star’s return to his X-Men role in Deadpool & Wolverine.
When one AP Entertainment journalist asked Reynolds about Jackman’s return, Reynolds replied:
“Now, I think, I think we all can see that Hugh is a liar, you know? That a bald faced horrible coward and a liar. Uh, here he is, back again back again. You know, you have to find out how he comes back because that’s one of the most fun aspects of the movie.”
Earlier, Marvel boss Kevin Feige also asked Jackman not to make a comeback to this iconic role as Feige thought that people would not take his return seriously or wouldn’t embrace it as his last appearance itself was a grand story. You just can not straightway disagree with Feige’s point of view. But this time the Deadpool & Wolverine version of the character is reportedly going to be totally different from the previous version in X-Men.
Ryan Reynolds Was Afraid that He Would Not Be Able to Convince Shawn Levy in Deadpool & Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverine, the upcoming Marvel movie starring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, is expected to be one of the best Marvel films ever made. Superhero movie fans are counting down the days till it releases in July to see what looks to be a huge success.
If Shawn Levy had declined to direct the film, it might not have turned out the way it does now. Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, was worried that Levy might turn down the offer to direct.
Reynolds had previously collaborated with Levy on The Adam Project and Free Guy. Based on their successful partnership, Reynolds hoped Levy would take on the roles of director, producer, and co-writer for Deadpool & Wolverine. Fortunately, Reynolds’ concerns were unfounded, as Levy immediately accepted the proposal.
In a recent issue of Empire Magazine, Levy shared his recollection of the moment:
“On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3. And I remember him saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.’ And my response was, ‘I’m not gonna fucking say no, are you kidding? It’s a hard and immediate yes, sir!’”
Wolverine was not yet expected to make an appearance in the film at that point. But Levy, who had once regretted declining The Wolverine, probably realized this was a rare opportunity he did not want to miss.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be in theatres on July 26, 2024.
