Sydney Sweeney is pretty, she is talented, unlike any recent comments about her. But she is also smart and knows how to do marketing for a film. At least that’s what his Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell believes.
Why did Glen Powell Admit that Sydney Sweeny is Smart?
Anyone but You, a romantic comedy film directed by Will Gluck starring Glen Powell as Ben who works in finance, and Sydney Sweeney as Bea, a law school student. And the chemistry these two have shown on-screen was carried forward in real life as well. It was speculated that the two costars had engaged in an offscreen relationship after Powell and his ex-girlfriend Gigi Paris broke up in April 2023. But, all those chemistry was 100% staged and fake.
Speaking with The New York Times recently, Powell poured heavy praise on Sydney Sweeney who is also serving as an executive producer of this rom-com. He said that Sweeney was the mastermind behind all these strategic moves.
“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry,” Powell explained. “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”
In the same interview, Sweeney said that she was on every call, in text group chats. “I was probably keeping everybody over at Sony marketing and distribution awake at night because I couldn’t stop with ideas… I wanted to make sure that we were actively having a conversation with the audience as we were promoting this film, because at the end of the day, they’re the ones who created the entire narrative.”
Anyone But You‘s official synopsis read: After an amazing first date, Bea and Ben’s fiery attraction turns ice-cold – until they find themselves unexpectedly reunited at a wedding in Australia. So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple.
Anyone But You has proved to be a box office success with grossing $216 million so far globally.
Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell Discussed Anyone But You‘s ‘Sexy Shower Scene’
Nowadays, steamy scenes are mostly performed under the supervision of an intimacy coordinator. But still, there are some scenes where actors don’t feel easy. Sydney Swwney who has starred in many n-ked roles in her career, felt “awkward” during one shower scene in her movie Anyone But You along with Glen Powell.
In an interview with E! News, Sweeney said that when 40 other crew members watched the filming, it really felt awkward. “There’s always an awkward moment, but I don’t know if it’s because you’re so close to someone other than the 40 crew members that are watching you film this—that’s the awkward part. If anything, I feel more safe with someone who I’m friends with than some people that you don’t really know.“
On the other hand, Powell told the outlet that when some random people keep giving advice on the set, that really can be a weird experience.
“When we were doing that, there were other people weighing in on what we should do in that scene. I was like, ‘I don’t like when crew members are weighing in on how I should do a sexy shower scene.’ You start getting in the head of some of your crew members. You’re like, ‘That is weird, man. Can’t look at you the same way.’“
Anyone But You may not be considered one of the best rom-coms of all time, but the on-screen chemistry between Powell and Sweeney made the film one of the best of the year.
