When everyone is waiting for Deadpool & Wolverine to hit the big screen and witness what Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman bring along with cameos. Meanwhile, Shawn Levy, director of 2024’s only MCU movie said that Deadpool & Wolverine shouldn’t be considered as Deadpool 3.
Shawn Levy Explained Why Deadpool & Wolverine Is Not Deadpool 3
A few days back, Deadpool & Wolverine provided audiences at CinemaCon with some exclusive footage from the movie and the excitement just soared high. However, director Shawn Levy has made one huge comment on the title of the film.
During a recent interview with Screen Rant, the director said that though this is the third film in the Deadpool franchise, but it’s not the same as its predecessors.
“As far as crafting the Deadpool and Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you’re talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles,” Levy said.
Explaining the difference between Deadpool & Wolverine and Deadpool 3, he added:
“It also gave me an opportunity. It’s the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not Deadpool 3. It’s a different thing that’s very much Deadpool and Wolverine. And it’s not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure.”
Along with Ryan Reynolds and Jackman, Deadpool & Wolverine will also star Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Emma Corrin, and Matthew Macfadyen.

That’s what we hope, Levy. In fact, for Marvel Studios as well, this is going to be a huge movie considering their recent box office bomb. The audience at CinemaCon 2024 already got to see the 9-minute exclusive footage and reports say that everyone is elated.
While speaking about Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s characters in the movie, Levy detailed that the audience will find joy in watching it.
“Well, I’ll tell you that the guiding thought in crafting the movie was audience joy. That was always the North Star. Yeah, it’s going to be gnarly. Yeah, it’s gonna be funny. That’s a given. But we wanted to build a great time at the theater for audiences, and that’s our goal,” he told ScreenRant.
In an interview with Collider, Levy assured that the movie is going to please everyone.
“We have had some early screenings that were extremely, extremely promising,” he said referring to the early review they received from test screening.
“I’m not making small films for my own satisfaction in a room alone, I’m making it to connect to the biggest audience possible,” he further continued.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theatres on July 26, 2024.
